How to change default send to location?

The default send to location on my 1 click purchases is Kindle for Android (my phone). Unfortunately this has brought up some nasty mobile fees as it automatically downloads and there's no way to stop all the downloads at once. How can I change the default download location to cloud to avoid this problem?

I've searched help and googled with no luck.

Devices/apps are listed alphabetically, with the first one on the list being the default. Go to http://www.amazon.com/myk, click on Manage Your Devices, and change the name of the one you want to be the default device so that it shows up first alphabetically.

Thanks, that worked great!

It's such a shame however that Amazon doesn't seem to work on the little details to make things simpler.

Forced downloading to a phone without wireless is just dangerous with only an option to cancel each download one at a time until the next time you open the app and have to cancel them all again.

Appreciate your help.

You're welcome.

However, I don't understand your comment about Amazon not seeming to work on the little details to make things simpler. It was a simple change, right? If Amazon hadn't offered an option to make the change, then I would understand your comment. I learned about it from reading the Kindle support pages, which are available to everyone who cares to read them.

It'd be cool if there was an additional checkbox next to each device. Click it and that device gets default deliveries. That's how they work credit cards, and it's pretty intuitive.

For example on my phone Kindle for Android automatically starts download all the books with no option to stop all downloads. The only option is to cancel them 1 by 1 each time you start the app.

Where I live I don't get a whole lot of mobile phone transfer.

@John - that would be wonderful and is the type of thing I'm talking about. Renaming a device to put it in alphabetical order to make it the default isn't considered great usability.

Having to rename a device is not a good way to address this problem. It's obviously a hack. A good design would have something intuitive for the user, so it wouldn't be necessary to search the web to figure out how to do something which should be obvious.

it's kinda intuitive - right below the Buy Now with 1-Click is the name of the default kindle - just select the correct one

"kinda intuitive" is the same as "kinda perfect." In reality, it either is or isn't.

actually, this didn't work for me - my default kindle isn't the first one alphabetically. Part of what Thomas meant by not intuitive! Still trying to get it to work...

that's because e-ink kindles will always be listed before android devices (Kindle Fire and apps on other tablets)

by kinda, I meant to most people - there are still those who don't notice the "please state what kind of kindle you have and fully describe your problem" in the Kindle Help Forum posting guidelines

You and me both, if you ever figure it out let me know!
The only way I could get my kindle fire to be the default, was to deregister my other kindles.
I agree with the post that said there should be a box that just says default, like anything else does, like credit cards or printers, should be a simple fix.

I have the same issue. When I buy an audiobook on audible, the "send to" is set to my wife's Kindle. It doesn't give an option to change which device to send to... My Kindle comes before hers alphabetically in my list of devices.

For this browsing session, I was able to re-alphabetize (I added a Z to the front of the cloud reader and the windows 8 kindle app), and it correctly lists my kindle fire first. We'll see if it works later.

I agree with the usability discussion here--there really needs to be a "make this my default device" option on the "manage my kindle screen".

You can always select the device that the book is going to download to. Just get in the habit of selecting the device you want, and the problem will be solved. I have to do this because my husband's Kindle is first, and mine is second.

B. Kemp says:
That's not really a solution for all issues though. For instance, when I buy a book from Audible - the default device is the only option to send to at the time of purchase. It's not a big deal, but an inconvenience that could be remedied fairly simply by letting users select their own default device.

In reply to an earlier post on Mar 4, 2013 9:47:35 AM PST
Is your device a phone or something else running an Audible app? You don't have to send a book from Audible to a device to complete the purchase. Just click away from that screen and check the app's library.

Yes I understand that. It's just annoying that my wife's Kindle is the default because it is an e-ink device.

I meagre that having to rename my devises as way of managing "send to" is not good systems design/ux design. There should be way to drag-n-drop order. Kind regards,
