Is a Kindle Paperwhite better for a college student or a Kindle Fire HD?

I am currently a college student and I'm looking into purchasing a kindle. I just wanted to hear the opinions of others about which version is more suitable for me.
I'll mainly be using my kindle for e-textbooks. Is there a version that's better for that purpose or are they about the same?
Also apps, movies, and music is a nice touch but not absolutely necessary.

T. Cook says:
If your textbook is in colour, the Fire.
No Apps, no Movies, no Music on the Paperwhite (well, no Apps you'd use as a productive student, but you could play Solitaire probably), very basic internet browsing (no flash, no animations)

You will want a Fire. Many e-textbooks are what they refer to as "print replica", meaning they approximate the printed edition. Those will only work on computers or tablets, not the smaller e-ink models. If you are in a field such that the books will involve a lot of graphics, diagrams, etc., the 8.9" would probably display those better than the 7". Your other option would be to get the smaller, less expensive 7" Kindle, and download the free app for whatever computer you use. You could view the detailed maps or whatever on the computer, then read on the Fire.
