Not very well. All of the Fires are backlit, like computer screens or phones. They are hard to read in bright light. It's one of the reasons many of us who have Fires also have one or more e-ink Kindles as well. The e-ink devices, like the basic or the PaperWhite, are excellent for outdoor reading.

Thanks for the update!

By the manufacturer of the screen protector I'll bet.

No screen protector, even those labeled anti-glare, make LCD backlit screens easy to read in the sun.

Can I download to both the Fire and paperwhite so that book or paper is on both? Or, do I have to transfer somehow?

As long as they are registered to the same Amazon account, yes, you can put things on both.

Keep it with you. Don't leave it somewhere you wouldn't leave your pet...like on the dashboard of your car in the sun.

The problem with Fires in bright sun is not so much glare, as it is about light competition and the structure of the human eye. Remember drive-in movies? There's a reason they didn't start the feature until dusk, regardless of the time of year. Why aren't fireworks shows at Noon?
