I am not yet a Kindle owner...I want to know how to recharge battery? Is there a charger included in the purchase? I looked & looked but could not find info about battery except that it is good for 8 weeks.

You will get a USB cable with the Paperwhite that can be used to charge the device from a computer, but not all USB ports are powered. It does not ship with a wall plug.

Many chargers from cell phones will work. It has a micro USB port.

No charger is included, but you can use the included USB cable to charge when plugged into a computer.

I also find thatmt phone charger will work to recharge my Kindle Paperwhite (I have a Droid).

You can charge from a computer's USB port with the included USB cable, or you can buy a wall charger (it's $9.99 if you order it with the Kindle) - Amazon 5W USB Charger (also compatible with other android and iOS devices) or you can use a cell phone or other charger.

A full charge will only last you 8 weeks if you read no more than an average of 30 minutes a day. Think of it as lasting for a little less than 30 hours of reading. It will be less if you download many books during that time, read with the light permanently on a high setting, or turn pages faster than "average".

I hardly ever let mine go below around 20% charged and don't always full charge (it's not needed) but I usually get around 7 to 8 days between charges.

To add to this you can also order any USB wall charger and it will work. Here is an example OEM Motorola SPN5689A Dual Port Universal Wall Charger for Motorola Droid RAZR MAXX XT916 / XT913, Admiral / PAX XT603, Atrix 2, DROID RAZR XT912 /HD, Photon 4G, Triumph WX435, Theory WX430, Titanium i1x, i412, XPRT, Droid X2, Clutch + i475

I use a Blackberry charger, an adapter for a USB cable that I bought at Radio Shack, and an official Kindle adapter that came with my Kindle DX quite some time ago. All work fine with one warning.

Not all USB/USB micro cables are the same. I have one I sued for charging that worked fine but it would not work to download and install an update manually. An original Kindle cable worked fine. A techie type explained it but I didn't understand.

Battery. All of my Kindles, from oldest to newest, have batteries that last longer than I can read in one day. I recharge while I'm asleep and I am not planning any lengthy visits to a wilderness with no electrical power. The whining about batteries lasting eight weeks or not really gets old.

@K. Oien - If your battery is dying within hours, you need to contact support. Click the "Help" link at the top of any Amazon page, then press the "Contact Us" button. Use the phone or chat option, not email.

Have you checked to see if you have any books stuck at indexing? That will drain your battery real quick.

I have gotten approximately 25 hours on a charge before, which is close to the 8 week claim (which is based on 0.5 hours per day with wireless turned off). (I normally don't get this much time because I normally have wireless and the light turned on.)

How do I check this. I did download many books.

K. Oien says:
So, you're saying that if I use wireless off and on, but turn it off, and also use the light, it may be normal to only get 7-8 hours of battery life? Do I also have to turn it off versus put it in sleep mode every time I go away from it?

From the home page, search for a nonsense string. I just type random letters/numbers in. Something like "podfi3." With or without the quotes and period.

Tell it to search - it should tell you it couldn't find it. If you have something stuck indexing, it will tell you how many books haven't been indexed.

If it's been more than an hour since you downloaded those books, delete them and download them again.

7-8 hours is pretty low. Much too low, IMO. You might be better off contacting Amazon support.

Click help at the top of the page, then the yellow Contact Us button on the right. Follow the prompts, and I recommend having them call you.
