Laura Monday says:
My Kindle Fire HD 8.9 screen will freeze on occasion and wont let me reboot it or anything. It is literally just frozen (even when i try to close the top cover on my case which normally turns it off it just stays on and frozen.) I have tried to hold down the power button and still nothing happens. About 5 minutes later it will go out of everything that i'm in and take me to the locked screen like when you first turn the kindle on. Any suggestions? or does anyone know why it does this?

I'm having a similiar problem but I will get a black screen as if it's powered down and it take roughly 10 minutes to restart. I may just have a lemon so I am going to call CS

Laura, try the following:

1) Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.

This should restart your Kindle Fire.

My new Kindel Fire HD 8.9 is frozen and won't reboot. All I get is black screen with kindle fire automated. I've rebooted several times and recharged over night. I've only had it 5 days and now on vacation for 2 weeks so I have no access to my receipt and box to return it quickly and get a new one. I'm really a dissatisfied customer right now.

If you tried the suggest fixes, Elizabeth, the next step is easy. Contact Kindle customer service, starting with the help link at the top of the page.

I'm back with an update. I took it into a Staples while on vacation (I purchased from Staples online, turned out to be a great choice, they were wonderful). They looked up my rewards number to get proof of purchase since I didn't have my receipt on vaca with me. They took it in on a return and shipped me a new to the store. I'm back in business. Great job Staples!

My kindle fire is frozen. I have tried holding down the power button, but it wont even shut down. I can still hear music playing on the app I was using, but the screen is nonresponsive. Is there another way to reboot if the power button fails?

My kindle fire hd is freezing after having it for a while. It unfreeze after waiting a few seconds. I had other trouble with my kindle first generation and Amazon replaced it. I am sure they will do this with the new version I have. My question is will this problem continue, is this an ongoing problem with the hd, and is it worth it to call and complain to get a replacement?

Grimwinder says:
If you haven't already, do a hard reboot as describe further up the thread. If you have, or that doesn't help, then contact Amazon Customer Service to have them help you troubleshoot your issue, and replace your device it they can't correct it, it is not an "ongoing problem".

A few seconds - you're lucky - I've waited minutes then frustration set in and I power down, sometimes to no avail...Serioulsy considering returning it.

C. Carter says:
Certainly a hard reboot will work but should this be necessary week after week not to mention having to set it up again and again - this device was not designed for this to be a weekly event.

My 3 kids each were given the kindle by their grandma for Christmas. All 3 keep freezing and holding down the power button does nothing, but have to let them reboot on their own. We have called Amazon to try to fix the problem and was told there was no problems with the kindles freezing. Now that I search, I see complaints up the rear. .. and now one of the kindles won't run some apps. Says there is an internal error and another kindle continually has the menu bar up when trying to play games, not allowing them to to play the games...very disappointed and getting ready to call customer service again :(

I called tech support and after being on hold for 10 minutes, I was disconnected. :( not happy

Got mine as a Christmas present & the screen would be slow to respond at times. Then in Feb. it wouldn't work for a few days, started up again for 1 day, then went down for 2 weeks. I bought mine at Best Buy & I'm hoping its not going to be an issue because I didn't get the extended warrenty.

My Kindle HD started freezing up right after the warranty ran out (12/13). If I let the kindles charge die, when I recharge it it works again. This seems to happen when I am using SILK. It is so fustrating to have this happen all the time. Any fixes out there?

Just purchased 1/2015 and Kindle is freezing. Videos won't play at all other than for a second or two...I hear the sound, but screen is black. My first tablet, and I'm so disappointed. Not a good sign, so I'm sending it back.
