We've had a good number of birthdays on the thread during the past month. Whether you have celebrated 25 or 75 birthdays or some number in between, there most likely is a special birthday that stands out in your memory. If not, is there a special way that your enjoy celebrating your special day?

Hi Cat, thanks for the start. Love the art work!

I like low key birthdays, I don't like to be the center of attention. My favorite was when I was 13 or 14 and had a cookout at a local park with a few friends, and then a sleepover at my house. Cakes were always homemade---the best!

Hi Tip, you are very welcome. I cannot take credit for the art work, it is from the file linked above as well as some borrowed from LOB on Links Only. I have gotten a little braver with it and know how to modify portions of it now without totally messing it up, although I still hold my breath when I hit "post."

@ Cat
Thank you for doing the start for today.
Glad that the artwork works for you, most of the artwork on the document is to be attributed to LOB.
Hope that you are fast asleep as I type and that your pain is on the decrease.

Since yesterday was
Lazy Day
I took full advantage of it and enjoyed having "me" time.

Today is :
Son and Daughter Day which is the perfect opportunity to set aside some time to reflect on the joy that children bring to your life. Whether sons and daughters are young or old, teenagers or toddlers, the bond between parent and child is like no other on earth and this annual celebration ensures the miracle of bringing new life into the world is never forgotten. Though the origins of Son and Daughter Day are unknown, it is celebrated widely across the world simply by parents spending time with their children and letting them know how special they are to them. The best gift to give on Son and Daughter Day is the gift of time. If your children are still living at home, take some time out of your schedule to truly enjoy their company. If your children have moved away, make sure they return so you can spend quality family time together.

Good Morning Red,

I had a feeling that the artwork was largely the work of LOB, she's very creative.

I slept for about 90 minutes and then awoke with difficulties. I just feel fortunate that I can focus long enough now to read books again, that two week period was quite rough.

I hope you find some relief with your coworker's return this morning.

Have a good day.

So sorry that you are not having a proper continuous sleep pattern, but glad that you are getting back into reading, and hopefully listening too.

Work is going to be a breeze with my co-worker back, though she will be late in today since it is first day of school for her daughter, and for GS1 (her daughter and GS1 were born 4 hours apart so we have a true connection !)

It is also first school day for Lenora so hoping that it is a really successful day with lots of smiles and happiness - and a long nap afterwards

(*_*) - I Wish I Could Take It Back

Have you ever spoken and wished that you could immediately take the words back... Here are the Testimonials of a few people who did....
FIRST TESTIMONIAL: I walked into a hair salon with my husband and three kids in tow and asked loudly, `How much do you charge for a shampoo and a b1ow job?' I turned around and walked back out and never went back My husband didn't say a word...he knew better.
SECOND TESTIMONIAL: I was at the golf store comparing different kinds of golf ba11s. I was unhappy with the women's type I had been using. After browsing for several minutes, I was approached by one of the good-looking gentlemen who work at the store. He asked if he could help me. Without thinking, I looked at him and said, `I think I like playing with men's ba11s'
THIRD TESTIMONIAL: My sister and I were at the mall and passed by a store that sold a variety of candy and nuts. As we were looking at the display case, the boy behind the counter asked if we needed any help. I replied, ` No, I'm just looking at your nuts.' My sister started to laugh hysterically. The boy grinned, and I turned beet-red and walked away. To this day, my sister has never let me forget.

I almost asked that on the start last Fri..

I have four birthdays that stick in my mind...
The first one I was 10 or 11 and sick... The guy that my mom was dating
went to the store and got me a pint of hand packed ice cream to make me
feel better...

The second one I was 16 and my "dad" drove me and a friend to the LA Forum so that I could see
my first concert. I had bought the tickets myself with babysitting money..
He took the rest of the family to a nice dinner while Sue and I were at the concert..
That wonderful man passed away 2 weeks later...

The third was when I was 17, My ex-husband took me to dinner and asked me to marry him..

And the fourth one I told you about last week... Coming home from the hospital when Chris was born..

WY Renegade,

Wishing you the happiest of birthdays! With even better ones to come.

Good luck to Lenora! Wishing you stamina and strength to get through the first day back to teaching!

I've had lots of good birthdays, but the one that really stands out could have been one of the worst. It was my 14th birthday, which falls at the end of the school year and that one had been difficult. I'd missed months of class due to illness, following a scandal involving one of the other three girls in my neighborhood who was my age and with whom I often played. I had known absolutely nothing about what she had been involved in, but rumors ran wild, especially with me being away from school for a couple of months. At school, I was ostracized by most of the kids -- kids I had gone to school with since first grade -- and only three other girls accepted the invitation to my party. My father decided to throw a birthday party that would make all the girls who declined the invitation very jealous. And he did. Instead of taking us to the beach, he drove us to San Marcos and New Branfuels . . . where there was a water park. We stopped for lunch at a famous German restaurant/country store, and he gave each of my friends $10 to spend in the store -- this was in 1974 so that was a lot of money -- but as the birthday girl, I got $20. He took us to the water park, where we rode in glass-bottomed boats, took the skyway across the park, rode floats over the whitewater part of the river, and just made it an all-day event. He was his charming best, and all four of us had a terrific time. But the best part was Monday morning at school -- we got out late that year -- with all three of those girls talking all day long about what a terrific time we had had, how wonderful my father was, how that was the best birthday party ever, showing off some of the stuff they had bought and talking about all the rest of it. I was terribly shy, while my father was charismatically charming and outgoing, and he made me sparkle and my friends, too. It was perfect. The girls who had shunned me, who had previously been my friend, began to thaw out a bit as they realized what they had missed. I never forgot what my father did for me, nor the three girls who stuck by me.

OT, but.... What if you received a letter from someone claiming to be your half brother with details that could be authentic? What would you do? Dad passed away several years ago, so .... Comments?

In reply to an earlier post on Aug 11, 2014 9:10:36 AM PDT
Wow! If the details could be authentic and it is not outside the bounds of possibility, I think I'd be inclined to investigate those details. I would not do anything on impulse, though, and would certainly want to think it over.

In reply to an earlier post on Aug 11, 2014 9:19:22 AM PDT
kajola says:
For me I think it would depend on the tone of the letter. Is this person just trying to connect with family or looking for info to complete a family tree? Or is he trying to stake a claim or solicit help?

I never had a brother, so I could be open to meeting someone who could possibly fill that void.

There is always DNA testing if you need proof.

Thanks for starting today, Cat!
I can't say one birthday stands out, but with it being on Christmas Eve my mother always tried to make it special. My gift was waiting on my chair at the table when I came for breakfast. Since there was no school, we always had birthday cake with noon dinner. Santa came to town in the afternoon, so we went to see him and tell him what we wanted. He gave each child a sack of candy. We had tuna fish sandwiches for supper before going to Christmas Eve church services for the children's program. Santa came while we were gone, so we opened presents on Christmas Eve.

Happy Birthday WYRenegade! Enjoy your day!

DH was released from the hospital this morning and is home resting now. Thank you to everyone for all the good wishes and prayers.
