bought my first kindle 2 months ago and was working fine until yesterday. Screen went black and it has not turn back on. going on 2 days now. Anyone has any advice on what i should do?

Jenny - Try rebooting it.

Since you do not specify which Kindle you have, here are instructions for all models:

For the Fire:
Make sure it's fully charged. Unplug the Fire.
Hold the power button in for 30 seconds (count them).
It should then reboot. The "kindle fire" screen will
appear for a couple of minutes while it's coming back on.

For e-ink Kindles:
For 2nd, 3rd and 4th Generation, Touch and DX Kindles:
Make sure it's fully charged. Unplug the Kindle.
Slide the power switch over (or press the power button) for 30 seconds (count them).
PUT IT DOWN AND DON'T TOUCH IT. It may take a few minutes to reboot.
Then turn on wireless and your books and Collections will repopulate.

For 1st Generation Kindles:
Leave it plugged in. Slide the cover off the back, and insert a paper clip or similar tool into the reset hole on the back.

Hi, I have a kindle (newest standard version) and i tried the above and it hasn't worked. When i connect the kindle to my computer to charge it has a yellow/orange light. Then when i unplug it the light is green (which i thought would indicate that its charged). Yet it still wont turn on. When i hold down the power button for 20 seconds the green light flashes like it does when i normal turn it off/put it in sleep mode. So it seems like its on but nothing is showing up. The screen is also periodically flashing as if its trying to work (flashing from white to a darker colour). This occurs both while its connected to the computer and also when i have disconnected it. One more thing - when the kindle is connected to my computer (Macbook Pro) the kindle icon doesn't show up on the desktop. I haven't dropped or damaged it in any way. Please help!

Thanks Pineapple. You're the bee's knees.

Annie, you have to leave it plugged in until the green light comes on on your Kindle.

You should really get Kindle US Power Adapter (Not included with Kindle or Kindle Touch). It charges the Kindles fully in about 1 hour.

Are you sure you have a First Generation Kindle?
Did you try holding the power button for 20 to 30 seconds?

In reply to an earlier post on Jul 3, 2012 7:28:40 AM PDT
Yes, multiple times to no avail.

Is your Kindle charged?

If so, you should click on Help - Kindle Help and click the Contact Us button to contact customer service. If you have the first generation Kindle, there isn't much they can do but they might be able to offer you a refurbed newer model at a discount.

Holding the power button for 30 seconds worked for me - but as others have said, you do have to count them! What I wonder is why my kindle needed rebooted in the first place?

Thank you...

L. Hill says: many computers...sometimes the "electrons" don't line up!!! hahaha...seriously, sometimes they just need a "reboot" - it clears any flags that might be set in the "check register" areas, and resets various counters back to zero or null...I have had to reboot my Fire several times in the last couple of weeks...which seems strange, as these are the first times in many months...hope that doesn't indicate a problem...
