@Mike's suggestion should be helpful. But if it doesn't work, rather than shouting on a user board, your better bet would be to contact Kindle customer support. At the top of this screen click Help, and you will see a big yellow Contact Us button at the right of the screen, after you scroll down a bit.

Any chance she also has a bluetooth keyboard? If yes, it may be connecting to it. Turn off the bluetooth keyboard.

BTW, my wife's iPad would connect with the BT keyboard that was downstairs. Some BT devices can connect up to 30 feet away. If it connects, it deactivates the on screen keyboard.
