Tried several: YouVersion, Logos, Touch Bible, Daily Bible. Some of these apps have bugs or claim to work offline but don't.

Is there a point to your post? If so it is quite unclear.

Okay... apparently the implied pronouns/verbs weren't obvious. I used my Kindle to start the thread. Ironic.

Second chance:
Title: (Seeking a) Kindle Fire Bible app for use off/on Internet.
Discussion: (I) [t]ried several: YouVersion, Logos, Touch Bible, Daily Bible. Some of these apps have bugs or claim to work offline but don't.

Point to [my] post: Any suggestions/recommendations for Bible apps that function offline, e.g., searchable verses, note-taking/bookmarking, etc.

Thank you.

@Ida B

Ida, you might like "Word of Promise" I have included a link below:

Word of Promise® App

This contain the whole text of the NKJV, and the audio for the book of John. This is the free version. The version with all of the audio is $39.95. I use it frequently.

You Version does work offline. There are several Bible versions/translations that you can read offline after downloading them. While your are connected to wifi, click on the version in the upper right of the app and any of the translations with the green button can be downloaded. Unfortunately not everything is available, but most are.

You do know that you can download full text bibles from www.gutenberg.org, right? In kindle format, and ready to use on or off line.

YouVersion works great but you have to manually download the Bibles for offline use.

What about using Kindle Bibles (not apps, just books that you can read on the Kindle or any Kindle app)? You should be able to highlight and take notes (I admit I haven't tried notetaking on the Kindle Fire yet, but I have on my iPod touch), and search for particular verses. And, once the Bible is downloaded to your Fire, you wouldn't need an Internet connection.

I've used YouVersion and have downloaded Bible versions for offline use. When I went to access the downloaded bible, the app noted that I needed to have Internet access to even open the app and therefore I could not access the downloaded Bible.

ETA: and this app crashes regularly.

I use YouVersion weekly and have never had to connect. Sometimes it asks about a connection, but I just close the dialog box and go to my passage. We don't have wifi on campus so I know it's not needed and I go between the AMP, NiV and NLT.

I have the ESV Bible (free download) and the ESV Study Bible (paid version) on my e-ink Kindles and recommend both. I'm not sure how well they work on the Fire or if they have any apps associated with them but the translation is great and they are properly formatted for the Kindle.

I have tried several offline bible apps, but have yet to find one that is SEARCHABLE offline, including Logos and YouVersion. Does anyone know of an OFFLINE SEARCHABLE Bible app that I can use at my church where there is no wifi available. I keep wanting to find scriptures using a phrase search but can't search for anything without a wifi connections. Thanks for your suggestions.

Why not just download a Kindle version Bible?? I was just messing with YouVersion offline and it works great as long as you have the actual Bible downloaded. I can change books and verses with no problems. In the settings turn off Push Notifications so you don't keep getting the annoying pop ups that say you are not connected.

I found the answer to my own question. For those of you who want to SEARCH not simply READ the bible offline try the amazon TouchBible app for the Android. I downloaded it to my Kindle Fire and can now SEARCH KJV OFFLINE to my heart's content. This will be great for my small group bible study that doesn't have wifi access. Best part...it was free!

Try "And Bible", available free in the Amazon app store. It's searchable and usable offline once you have downloaded a bible translation or other resource.

I tried this, and it didn't work with ESV. Actually, I OWN the audio ESV version, but the only way I can use the app is online.

I hope you get some answers, because those are my experiences exactly! The app crashes and it takes forever to get it back up and running. I like to have it read to me, but that is a constant battle, every step of the way.

Sounds like a junky app that you should either 1) delete or 2) contact the app developer and tell them about the glitches.

After years of using YouVersion app, when I try to access my Bible study plan, it closes down. The other parts work fine. Anyone know what to do to fix it?

It works today!! Evidently it was doing an update!!

My favorite remains ESV Study Bible

It's a Kindle book, not an app so all features work offline.

The Kindle version has just been updated. Although I haven't had a chance to check the update yet, per Amazon's notice:

"This book has undergone significant changes, so any bookmarks, notes, or highlights you've made will not transfer over to the new version of the book.

"The updated version contains the following changes: *Significant editorial changes have been made.

"You can get the updated version of this book by going to Manage Your Content and Devices. Find the book under Your Content tab, click on the "Update Available" button next to the book's title, and then follow the update prompts. All your devices that have the eBook currently downloaded will be updated automatically the next time they connect to wireless."
