I want to ask you if you (Amazon) intend to bring on market an 9.7 with Built-in Light, Touch-Screen and without keyboard.
I'm interested because I read especially pdf files.

If you want to ask Amazon a question, click the Help link at the top or bottom of any Amazon page.

This is a customer discussion forum & none of the customers would have any idea of what Amazon will do.

that would have use some way bigger lights to illuminate the whole screen area

I highly doubt it since they discontinued the DX model altogether. For the price they would have to ask for it I don't see them selling enough to put the time and money into producing it.

and especially not since they have the 8.9" Fire to take up the slack of a bigger tablet/reader

it's only .8" different in size

For the health of my eyes, I prefer to use ebook reader and not a tablet. I have an old DX and I was wondering if Amazon will release a new model or to look for another brand ( let's say ONYX BOOX M92).

In reply to an earlier post on Feb 5, 2013 5:29:29 AM PST
instead of a Fire I bought a 10.1" Samsung tablet, even smaller difference in size and more versatile (plus it's actually available here, the Fire wasn't when I bought that tablet and I think still isn't).

But I much prefer my old DX for reading anything that doesn't require colour. Easier on my tired old eyes, and it doesn't drain power to the rate of needing to spend 2-3 hours on the charger for every 5-6 hours of reading. Charging it once a week or so is usually enough (and that with the degraded battery performance it's starting to display after 3 years of daily hard use).

The Onyx M92 has been re-branded as the Icarus Excel 9.7 and although not sold in the US, it's available from Amazon marketplace sellers: ICARUS eXceL 9.7" E-ink Ebook Reader with Wacom Touchscreen (Handwritting Annotations) and WLAN .

For large-screen e-ink readers suitable for reading PDF's, it may be the best choice.

I read in many cases how people say "oh no they won't make a paperwhite DX; there's just not enough demand". well, in the age of the long tail of internet sales, I doubt that this statement is exactly true. I think there is demand. others have said "well it costs them so much to make the DX that the profit margin is too low to justify it." well, Amazon didn't get to where it is, bc they only look at maximizing the numbers. I have heard that Amazon discovered a bunch of Dxs in a warehouse somewhere - and this is why they are selling them again? not sure. but I think there are changes coming to the market... and I have seen paper thin models from another manufacturer. It is highly likely that the devices will continue to evolve. and the issue of eye strain is a very real one. I for one hope the dx and the devices that follow in its footsteps will live up to the amazon spirit and name.

Why not extend screen of new PW to 8in or 9in ? Perfect!
Only problem w/ PW is screen size is too small.

because the lighting likely won't stretch that far

Ok...I am an engineer (probably rare these days).
Maybe they just need to tone down the lumens or change a refraction here or there.

I understand there are physics involved...but that has been the problem since the first Eniac.

So why is there lack of will ?

I'd pay $250 for a 9 inch problem. Even if it only has 3 days of charge.

Unfortunately they'd probably never be that low in price.

yep - there was about a 200 USD difference in price between the K2 and the DX if I remember rightly which would make it more like 319 USD minimum and it would probably be more because they'd have to add more lights to illuminate a screen of that size

Grimwinder says:
You'd pay that, but how many others would? I would imagine they've done the market research on sales projections and planned their models accordingly. It's most likely the economics here, not the engineering, that's determining their device designs.

Waiting and wishing for Kindle DX Color. Because i will need it with pdfs. Hope they have plans for a similar model because there is a big market for it especially researchers, students, professionals.

You really only need to post things once. Resurrecting every "kindle dx" thread isn't going to make a difference. If you really want Amazon to consider (or even see) any request you need to contact them through their feedback email address. Everyone here is just a customer like you.
