Just testing my new Kindle paperwhite and was surprised how much the screen "flashes" when I switch pages and swipe the main screen.

It becomes very bright and then redraws the page each time. Is this normal? It seems to me it should not be like this. Just wondering.

I have the same issue, and it drives me crazy. It almost feels like the software is 'buggy' or something.

It's the e-ink screen refreshing. You can change the rate of refresh under the settings. You should get used to it over time. It drove me nuts on my Basic Kindle for the first week or so, now, I don't even notice.

Use the Kindles for a week. I lay odds you won't notice that "flash" at that point.

I have the "Refresh the E-ink display with every page turn" turned off and it still flickers. I may just return it and use the Kindle app on my phone/tablet since that doesn't flicker.

i have my Kindle paper-white now for a couple of months and the flash is driving me crazy. I tend to read late at night and it just does not feel good. Is there anyone out there that can solve this problem. Don't know where to find the solution in settings.

With the medium font size and line spacing the flashing is less noticeable.

I've been using mine since Oct 2 and I think I'm giving up. It's set not to refresh every page but it does it anyway and it's especially annoying at night. It flashes every page for 10-20 pages then doesn't for a couple, then it flashes every page again. It's hard to enjoy reading with the constant refreshing and the battery life is probably affected KPW1 doesn't do that and never did. I've tried it in a sleep cover, no cover, a TPU cover, I've reset it, restarted it...nothing works.

I would call Customer service and see if they will send you a replacement.

Yep, that's what I meant by "giving up"..,I should have said that. :) I really think it's defective since the three PW1's in the family don't do it. I had been hanging on hoping for a software update but I don't see a ton of people with the same issue so it probably isn't a software issue. At any rate, I'm sure Amazon will make good on it.

LOL I did find it out that you would just give up. See you enough around the forum to know you love your Kindle too much to just put it on the shelf :)

The Kindle Paperwhite, which I bought in Sept. 2015, only allows for page refresh to be set on or off...there's no way to set of for a specific number of page turns.

Jazzy_Jeff says:
Correct. You can have it refresh every page or whatever the default is. Shouldn't be an issue.
