The first generation (circa 2007 or so) has a replaceable battery - I assume that after 7 years the battery no longer works. You can get replacement batteries on eBay (I had done so in the past and changing the battery solved the problem). Amazon may be able to replace the battery as well, although it used to be that they would replace the entire unit with another. I'm guessing they don't do much with the older models now, however.
