I am trying to register my Kindle. It is connect to my wireless. However when I go to register (I already have an account), I get the following message: "Your Kindle is unable to connect at this time. Please make sure you are within wireless range and try again. If the problem persists, please restart your Kindle from the Menu in Settings and try again". I've done this many times. Don't know what to do.

Mike says:
Hmmm, are you sure that you're connected to your WiFi? It would seem that your Kindle, whichever one it is, doesn't think so.

Dittie says:
Being connected to wireless doesn't mean it's connected to the internet, only to the network. Reset your router by unplugging it for a minute. Wait until all its lights stop flashing, then reboot the Kindle again.

Telling us which model kindle you have would help us give more specific help. How do you know (that is, what are you taking as an indicator) that you're connected to the wifi?

It is Kindle Keyboard when I search wireless - it shows "forget", which tells me it already understands the wireless. Plus I went to the Experimental link and went to a Web Browser, and the urls opened up.

@Star-Spangled Dittie: I did reset wireless. I did reboot kindle keyboard.

Dittie says:
Is "forge" the name of *your* wireless network?

Posted on Jun 29, 2013 6:30:28 AM PDT
sorry - i meant to say "forget"

Dittie says:
You reset the *router?* Then immediately after, you rebooted the Kindle?

In reply to an earlier post on Jun 29, 2013 6:32:05 AM PDT
Dittie says:
Okay, that makes a difference. Please reply to specific comments so we can try to figure this out.

Yes. I reset the router, tried again. It didn't work. Then I rebooted the Kindle

Dittie says:
Did you just get this Kindle Keyboard? Did you buy it used, perhaps?

In reply to an earlier post on Jun 29, 2013 6:35:45 AM PDT
It was a gift, but I haven't registered it. I got it over a year ago. I'm just using it now.

Dittie says:
Okay. So let's just start at the beginning and try to rule things out. Are you at home? You have wi-fi? You have your own wireless home network?

In reply to an earlier post on Jun 29, 2013 6:40:05 AM PDT
Yes. And my laptop and cell phones are connected wirelessly.

Dittie says:
Alright, is it by any chance AT&T DSL?

In reply to an earlier post on Jun 29, 2013 6:43:28 AM PDT
No Verizon Fios

Dittie says:
Okay, thanks. Does the Kindle have a pretty good charge, like, better than half?

In reply to an earlier post on Jun 29, 2013 6:46:04 AM PDT
100%

Dittie says:
Excellent. Now we're going to do some steps that you've already done, but they all need to be done again and in a precise order. Again, we're just trying to rule out whatever we can. First, though, I just want to confirm that it's a secured network and that you're 110% certain you know its password. Is that correct?

In reply to an earlier post on Jun 29, 2013 6:50:05 AM PDT
Yes. positive it is the correct password.

Dittie says:
Good. Now, the thing about that particular Kindle is it doesn't connect to an N router unless it has A/B compatibility mode. If you aren't sure, we'll just move on and we'll know as we're able to rule more things out.

One more question. When you go to Home, what does it say at the very top right? Does it say something like Peggy's Kindle or does it say My Kindle?

In reply to an earlier post on Jun 29, 2013 6:59:39 AM PDT
It says My Kindle. I am not sure about the N router or A/B compatibility mode question. My router is all one with Fios. I do not have internet box as well as a router.

In reply to an earlier post on Jun 29, 2013 7:05:06 AM PDT
Dittie says:
Okay, that's fine. We'll probably know that soon enough.

Now, unfortunately, I don't have a wi-fi Kindle here at the moment to be on the same page, so to speak. But what we want to know next is whether that's your network where it says "forget." Can you get back to that?

In reply to an earlier post on Jun 29, 2013 7:06:24 AM PDT
yes - that is my wifi network
