Peace Officers of California

I strap on my boots
I tighten my vest
I buckle on a 30 pound belt
I put on my badge
I say bye to my loved ones
I walk out the door with hopes I'll come back
I pray to God for protection
I leave my own issues and stresses at the door
I check into my squad car
I patrol your neighborhood
I place your security on my shoulders
I go in when there's an intruder
I stop fights
I stop threats
I stop burglaries and thefts
I stop drug abuse
I stop child abuse
I stop rapes, murders, and other issues
I'm your first line of defense
I'll give my life to protect yours
My safety is constantly in jeopardy
I see only your worst of times
I put on your stress
But You yell at me
You hate me
You don't agree with me
You call me a pig, a bully, crooked, trigger happy, no good, and useless
You fight me
You spit on me
You try to kill me
You teach your kids I'm a monster that'll take them away
You judge my every move
You question my decisions
You complain about me
And yet I don't get offended
With my loved ones suffering my absence
With my pay barely enough to get by
I'm still here for you
I'll be an ear for you
I'll still fight for you
I'll still stand for you
With muscle knots on my back
With sweaty palms
With tears held back
With cuts and bruises
With my life on the line
I'll still protect you
I maintain the Peace
I protect the Weak
I serve the Needs
I am a POLICE OFFICER

Written by Officer Ybarra
- with Shannon Strain-Mangan, Samantha Garcia, Jimmy E. Johnson and Bea Vaz.

I saw this on facebook and I think that it is true no matter where the Peace Officer is from..

Hi Sandy, thanks for the start.

Police officers always seem to get the short end of the stick, don't they. They are always criticised for whatever they do. I don't think it matters what state or even what country they come from.

Sally in SA says:
Red, you're having a horrible start to your seek. I hope your son's giddiness and sore ears come right really soon and they have indeed removed everything they needed to, to prevent any recurrance of the problem.

Good vibes being sent his way for a full recovery and success in his job search.

Reclaiming Lily

Riveting Race against the Clock to Save a Young Woman's Life

A storm the size of Texas brews when Gloria Powell and Kai Chang meet in a Dallas hotel. They have come to discuss the future of Lily, the daughter Gloria adopted from China and the sister Kai hopes to reclaim. Kai is a doctor who had to give up her little sister during the Cultural Revolution and has since discovered that an inherited genetic defect may be waiting to fatally strike Lily.

Gloria's relationship with her daughter is tattered and strained, and the arrival of Kai, despite the woman's apparent good intentions, makes Gloria fearful. Gloria longs to restore her relationship with Lily, but in the wake of this potentially devastating diagnosis, is Kai an answer to prayer...or will her arrival force Gloria to sacrifice more than she ever imagined?

Susan says:
May on the Way: How I Become a K9 Spy (May the K9 Spy)
Sometimes I start with a well-thought out plan, and sometimes, me being me, things just happen. In my imagination I'm on my way, heading anywhere. Because anywhere's better than here.

Which is why I'm staring at this latch. I'm going to escape today. I've been watching closely to see how they work it, though no one's noticed.

Humans... So unaware...

In this first-of-the-series adventure, May, an imaginative young Schnauzer, tells her own story in first dog. She escapes a bad situation through adoption into the home of a grouchy Labrador. When her new family moves to the country, May ventures out where she's not supposed to be, and discovers an odd "bird" near a rickety old shed with a secret.

She's on her way to becoming a K9 Spy!

Sally - I thought it looked good, too :)

Snowing here again...
We have surpassed last year's snow totals already this year.
And last year we got 3 feet of snow in one shot.
I've had enough, it's depressing - I'm sure I'm not the only one on the East Coast that feels this way....

A warm up is in the forecast though :)

In reply to an earlier post on Feb 18, 2014 8:37:21 AM PST
KaJoLa says:
We got more snow overnight. There is no where to put it anymore.
The weatherman says we are over 40" above the yearly average snowfall.

I just hope it doesn't all melt at once. Our basement is prone to flooding when that happens.

In reply to an earlier post on Feb 18, 2014 8:37:55 AM PST
Sally in SA says:
Oh I sympathise Susan. You must be fed up by now with the snow and so tired of shovelling. How often has it stopped you going to work?

We are so hot and humid here at the moment. February is always our worst month for the humidity.

In reply to an earlier post on Feb 18, 2014 8:41:13 AM PST
Sally in SA says:
I hope that doesn't happen KaJoLa. That would really add insult to injury. I really hope it clears for you all soon.

In reply to an earlier post on Feb 18, 2014 8:45:34 AM PST
Susan says:
KaJoLa, I know just what you mean about melting.
2 years ago we kept shoveling our back deck and then had this huge mound of snow right at the corner of our house, where yep, it leaks a bit in the basement, we live on a hill and so we got one of those plastic kid sleds and spent a day loading up snow from the back yard and moving it beyond the house to the front yard.
It's crazy.
I'm too old for this :)

Hot and humid? :)
Ship some my way...
How is your kindle?

In reply to an earlier post on Feb 18, 2014 8:59:31 AM PST
KaJoLa says:
We live at the bottom of a big hill so everything drains down from above into our yard. We spent many nights outside digging ditches and trying to keep them clear to divert the water away from our garage and basement. We still end up with some water inside no matter what we do. They didn't think things through when they built our house.

In reply to an earlier post on Feb 18, 2014 9:01:11 AM PST
Oh, how incredibly annoying! Nothing you can do with drainage, ditches etc?

In reply to an earlier post on Feb 18, 2014 9:02:28 AM PST
Sally in SA says:
I'm leaving it plugged in and will give it a try in a day or so. I'm just too nervous to try it now. I don't want my hopes dashed just yet:)

In reply to an earlier post on Feb 18, 2014 9:10:28 AM PST
KaJoLa says:
Yes, we have drainage ditches. They are like little rivers with waterfalls and rapids when there is a big snow melt, or even a prolonged heavy rain. We also built an extra concrete wall around the side of the house where most of the water seemed to come in, but it still manages to find a way in.

In reply to an earlier post on Feb 18, 2014 9:14:03 AM PST
Our old house was a bit like that - it's at the foot of a hill and the basement butted onto bedrock, made for a very damp basement. We dug it up (fortunately not terribly deep) and laid down drainage pipes, plastic and insulation, and it made a tremendous difference. I hope you can get it sorted, water is death on houses!

In reply to an earlier post on Feb 18, 2014 9:15:21 AM PST
What is wrong with it? After the ressurection of my KK I am a strong believer in leaving kindles plugged in and to let them sort themselves out:)
