Paperwhite advertisements lessen product

I own several Kindles. My first purchase of a Paperwhite had no ads, no 3G.

I then purchased a Paperwhite with ads and 3G, having read or been told that the ads act only as a screensaver.

However, I find that an add banner remains at the bottom of the 'home' screen.

Therefore, I am able to see only 7 titles, rather than 8 (I use 'list' view).

The ads affect the FUNCTIONALITY of the unit. They are not simply screen saver.

They take up what could be useful screen space.

I know that I can disable ads for $20.

However, I find the manner in which they are used on the Kindle screen to be deplorable.

I am strongly considering sending my second paperwhite back, and making no further Kindle purchases.

I really feel ripped off.

I wish I had seen a picture of the display first, showing an ad WASTING SCREEN SPACE.

I AM VERY UNHAPPY ABOUT THIS.

I highly recommend you actually research a product before purchase next time.

Other customers, which is who you are communicating with on this forum, not Amazon, frankly do not care that you feel ripped off, that you are unhappy and that you are strongly considering sending your PW back and making no further Kindle purchases. People simply do.not.care about strangers' whiny foot stomps. And honestly? Amazon as a company doesn't really care about whiny foot stompers either.

So yeah - send your PW back and nevereverever buy another Kindle product again, EVAH.

Yawn.

Please send $20 to the worthy charity of your choice as penance for posting such a silly comment. I suggest sending money to help feed starving children in the developing countries.

Jubal - don't bother, you'll never get anywhere with these fanboys. They are willing to overlook unacceptable QC issues, shady business practices, and all other manner of shortcomings, just so they can pat themselves on their collective backs and feel enlightened about... well, something, i guess lol.

I can not believe that you are whining about the ads on the bottom of the Paperwhite. I have one and they are not bothersome. You have to swipe a little more to see all your books but it is not like you are going to wear out your finger. I do it all the time to see what book I want to read and my finger is not wearing down because of it.

If you are that unhappy about that you need professional help A LOT!!!

I love the comments from the other posters. They hit it right on the nail. This is the product you choose. No one made you buy it, so you have no one else to blame but yourself.

What is deplorable (to use your word) is people who don't even read the basic information on the product page, and then whinge because of something they didn't find out about!

From the PW product page, RIGHT NEXT TO where you choose with or without special offers:
"Special Offers display when you're not reading. Learn more"

Click on "learn more" (I take it you didn't do that!) and it says, in part:
"This content displays on your Kindle Paperwhite's screensaver **and on the bottom of the home screen**-it doesn't interrupt reading." (emphasis mine)

You're a perfect example of someone who's created their own unhappiness.

What a load of goatcrapp.... All the information is available on the product page if you take the time to read it. Imagine that, actually reading the information available about an e-reader...hmmm.

"I really feel ripped off."

Wow, your autocorrect changes "ridiculous" to "ripped off?" So sad. So incredibly, unbelievably, astuckingfonishing sad.

Dear FSM. I don't care for the ad versions myself, but this is just absurd. Don't like the ads? Pay to remove them or send your Kindle back.

Screeching about feeling ripped off is pointless, and only paints you as an entitled speshul snoflake.

Please send it back. Then sell all your Kindles, buy something else, and go in peace.

I feel totally ripped off that he stole his screen name from Heinlein.

Pay the $20 (brings you to the price you'd have paid if you'd gotten it with no ads to begin with), and get the ads taken off.

For the first time I decided to buy the ads version when I got the new PW2. Within minutes of receiving it the ads and the banner at the bottom of the home screen were driving me crazy. :-D So I called Kindle customer service and paid the $20 and...voila!

by simply going to manage your devices you can subscribe and unsubscribe to the SO's. To unsubscribe there would be a fee depending on device on the PW it is $20.

I love my SO devices and certainly enjoy the savings I have gotten from them .... the free money (by having a mastercard as my one click method I got $10)
