Are there any plans for Collections or other book organization tools in the various programs and apps?

Have you synched?

Bufo Calvin says:
Miriam, it shouldn't take that long. First, I would do what Old Rocker suggests, and sync...which Kindle do you have?

If that doesn't work, you can restart it.

Just want to check one thing, though: you have removed your books from the device and they are still showing on the homescreen/Carousel? It's not that you are seeing them in the archives/Cloud?

How do I get updates? How do I find out what type of IOS I have?
I am not computer illiterate and have used computers for years...
however all this Kindle tech talk is like a foreign language to me...
I don't really want to learn a LOT about kindle... just read my books...
mostly... I did get a magazine and cancelled cause I couldn't make the font larger
like you can with books!!!
Lost in N.C.

Kim, iOS is the operating system on iPhones and iPads etc. This thread is about the version of the Kindle app that runs on Windows 8.

What OS (operating system) you have depends on what sort of hardware you're using.

Charlie says:
Gibby, you should be able to find the directory by doing a search for *.azw -- since that is the most common file type for Kindle books.

I don't have Windows 8, vut on Windows 7 the files are in the user documents folder, subfolder "My Kindle Content"

Randy says:
Gibby - I don't think you can. What Charlie A describes works ok for Kindle for PC (Desktop) but to open MOBI files with Kindle for Windows 8, Amazon would have to add a "Open file" option within the application. Such a feature is currently not included or available.

As an avid reader owning Kindle's, I am wanting to update to a newer Kindle. I hate the advertising on my old Kindle. The first one I had with the keyboard on bottom was the better of the two. Do I have to have the advertisements? I have a Dell with the new Windows 8. Which Kindles would be the best to look at. The 3g Paper White or the Wifi Kindle Fire 7" by ? I'm not really a game person. I have a 4g droid phone -Lumina/Nokia.
Thank you for any suggestions or observations.

Charlie says:
The Paperwhite is the e-ink screen which works well in direct sunlight. It is a reader, not a computer or tablet and has little functionality beyond reading. Not even very good for web browsing. The Kindle Fire is a backlit LCD tablet similar to other Android machine.

Since you already have the LCD droid phone for internet browsing, my guess would be that the Paperwhite would have the most added value to your current collection of devices.

The Papewhite comes with ads. Removal of ads is an additional $20 fee. If you have wifi at home and work, the 3g version won't add much value/convenience, particularly if your phone can be a mini-hotspot.

Thank you, I was looking for the same functionality. Too bad it is not available.

I have been reading my magazine subscriptions on Newsstand, iPad and when I tried to read them on Kindle, Windows 8, I could see only my ebooks, not my magazines. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? Thanks!

Posted on Sep 2, 2013 2:33:19 AM PDT
Charlie says:
If you look at the page where your subscribed to the magazines, you will see a list of compatible devices and reading apps.

If the Kindle for PC is not listed, then it won't work.

Most ( all?) magazines and newspapers cannot be read on Kindle for PC.

Magazine subscriptions are also not available for Windows Phone Kindle app, as well as Windows 8 Store app. But they are available for iPhone and Android.

Lightspeed Magazine
Asimov's Science Fiction

Please fix this Amazon.

UPDATE: Nevermind, looks like Zinio works fine, and most subscriptions are the same price. Bye.

When can we expect to actually be able to read all our books on Kindle for Windows 8. I bought a Surface Pro so I could have my books side by side with my homework and be able to easily scroll through it. $400 later and I can't even use them with the Kindle App for Windows 8. I expect this from other companies but not from Amazon. What is with all the limited functionality applications you design for iOS/Android/Windows8. What garbage.
