On the kindle fire hd homescreen the backround is black and you can not change the color of it. I think that amazon should let you be able to change the color from black to any color you want like purple or blue or yellow. I think the kindle fire hd should do this because the nook hd lets you change the backround and where an app should be located. So please amazon please make this happen.

I agree. It would be nice if the KF HD allowed some additional ways to personalize the unit. Give it time, someone will probably find a workaround to "suit our needs".

My first kindle (fire hd) came in today and am pretty bummed that I can't customize the splash screen or wallpaper.

I love to personalize my stuff (phone, laptop etc) so why can't we do it on the fire hd, very frustrating & I'm really getting fed up with the adverts on the lock screen!!!!

Then why did you by the Fire? A little research would have shown you what you can do with it. That is the reason I went with a full Android tablet instead of the Fire myself. As for the advertisements you can pay $15 to have them removed. That is what you get when you purchase an ad supported device.

While I have no wishes for changing my Kindle's background color, you should know that this is a customer forum, and an Amazon official may never see it.

If you'd like Amazon to actually see your suggestion, please email them at:
kindle-feedback@amazon.com

@Geoffrey: No point in telling us. Did you read the post above yours?

If you want to be certain that someone from Amazon hears your feedback, please send an email to kindle-feedback@amazon.com or kindle-fire-feedback@amazon.com if you have a Fire - we are mainly Kindle owners here, not from Amazon.

The point in "telling us" is that another Kindle Fire HD owner may have figured out a way around this problem and posted it here. Pleas don't tell us what to ask. This forum is here to check in with other Amazon users and to help each other if we can, not tell us to not post because we're "not from Amazon."

If you have nothing of substance to offer, please don't post your snarky and unhelpful comments, thank you.

@Ryan: I have been on the forums almost every day for the past two and a half years, and no one has been able to post that they have found the way to do what you want to do. So my advice was to give feedback to Amazon about it, and I provided the email address for you to do that. Have you done that?

And when you posted: 'can we have a home screen design', your post sounded to me as though you were asking Amazon rather than asking if anyone knew of a solution, so that is why I advised you to contact Amazon.

And I have no way of knowing whether you are aware that you are not talking to Amazon when you post here - lots of people think that Amazon read every post on every thread - and they don't.

If you took my post as snarky, then that is your choice - I won't try to help you in the future, so you won't have to be offended again.

So, did anyone ever ask Amazon?

It.can't.be.done.

Well, it can be done (sort of)....with some work. You can root the Kindle, install the Google Play Store and then install a different launcher that you can customize.

Shouldn't have to should have been something that came with the device. It is a really dumb thing that it doesn't.

Jon says:
You know this how? I think you don't know and the machine doesn't come with a way to permit it, though an app could do it or amazon could add that functionality and I think they were just lazy in not having it in the first place.

When not in use, a Fire normally isn't being stared at. When you're using it, you can't see the sleep screen. There is no point to adding this "feature" that really isn't a "feature" at all.

The Fire doesn't handle apps like a full blown android tablet. On those, and on the iPad, you can set the screen picture that shows behind the icons. The Fire doesn't show the screen in the same way, so there is just no reason to offer it.

I can pretty much be certain that most users do not stare at the sleep screen on their Fire, or other Kindle.

My kindle fire HD is acting funky. The sound bar keeps popping up and doesn't seem to go away. I have tried rebooting several times, but nothing has changed. It also beeps each time the sound bar appears. I cannot remove it, and I cannot read through it.
It also does not turn off as easily as it once did. I have to push the power button quite a long time, sometimes it will shut off, but not always. What am I doing wrong.

Is there a way to remove or hide what is shown on the home screen, for example if I don't want a particular document to show. Thanks for your response in advance.

Assuming you have a KF HD since that is the device being discussed in the last few posts on this month old thread. I assume also that you are talking about the carousel. If both of those are true (more detail always is helpful) items on the carousel can be removed by touching and holding the touch (don't tap) until the menu appears. One of the items on the list is Remove from Carousel. Tap that item and the item will no longer be there. Be careful NOT TO TOUCH Remove from Device unless that is what you intended!

Thanks for the answer. When I tried that before I guess I was doing more of a tap than a touch.

The kindle fire should allow different styles to suit all buyers to give you that personalizing that bit easier

Yea, but they don't so why buy one if it doesn't have what you want?? I think my car should be able to use diesel or gas but that doesn't change the fact they can't. Buy a device that has what you want to begin with and then you will always be happy.
