Thanks for clearing that up. I was confused about whose decision this was.

Joel,

It's just that we know as much as you do about upcoming device releases. None of us have insider information.

Wasn't it on sale yesterday? And I see today the LTE is on sale. I suspect they will run these back-to-school sales periodically.

At any rate, you are the only one that can determine:

1. What do you need and want from the tablet?
2. What advances would you want from a newer version to entice you to wait and see so you can pay more money for the new one?
3. Does the present version suit you now? Will it fulfill your needs for the next year?
4. Is Amazon the ecosystem to which you want to be tied?
5. Does your budget allow you to wait and buy a newer version - if there will be one? Or do the sales going on now work better for your wallet?

I haven't "heard" any rumors about an HDX2 but over the past few years new models have been announced in August or September with initial delivery sometime before Christmas. If I were in the market for a new Fire I would probably wait. Then again, there have been some pretty good deals in the past few days on the current models.

If you buy now, or any time soon, yuo will miss out on new features. Forget the HDX1, and HDX2. Wait for there HDX15.

Consider this, if you buy one now and a new one is announced in the next two months, will you be angry?

In reply to an earlier post on Aug 6, 2014 8:54:17 AM PDT
Will they be angry, and will they feel compelled to post here about what a rip off it was?

Undoubtably. *sigh*

When people ask in a forum for an opinion (obviously a non-professional one, else they wouldn't ask in a forum) the answer is always "Yes" and "Buy the most expensive one".
That way supply goes down faster and the company makes (hopefully) more money, so they will bring out the new release quicker.
That way the rest of us who aren't dithering over a purchase can get the new release sooner.

It happens every year.

P{robably.

When I answered you only had <<Kindle fire 8.9 hdx: Buy or Wait?>> on your OP.

You gave no indication of what you were looking for, what your needs are, and frankly, asking other people that you don't even know about whether you should purchase a product is just weird.

Asking about a product is one thing, but then again, Amazon has all the info one would need to make a purchasing decision on a Kindle/Kindle Fire, plus they have reviews that you can look at.

Customers have no idea when or even if Amazon is going to come out with something new, until Amazon decides to make it public.

Yeah. I posted at around three this a.m. when I woke up and saw the discounted Kindle Fires. This is also the same time I purchase many Kindle books that seemed like a good idea at the time. When I read your post, I realized that I had been vague-ish and added detail, so your post prompted me to change my post. Anyway, it's a mild OCD tic. If it doesn't pass, then I'll make a decision. What I do will depend on specs, when they are published.
All posters are right, of course. Bezos ain't sayin' so we ain't knowin'. What intrigued me, however, is that one rumor mentioned the "new" device to be running on some flavor of KitKat. Another place reported a snappier CPU. These are, of course, hints, rumors, and allegations.
Thanks for responses though.
J

Usually when someone asks for my thoughts or opinion I try to answer the question as if they asked "What would you do?" and base my response on what I know. Sometimes I'll speculate.

Ah, but the question was not whether to buy... it was whether to buy or wait.

So my answer would have been yes, buy now or wait. :)

Joel says:
Ah. Yes. Of course, the answer is obvious now. I don't know how I missed that. In fact life, the universe, and everything all make sense now. Thank you.

There is always sense in buying the latest technology with the greatest amount of storage one can afford.

So if budget isn't a concern, then waiting seems the best plan :)
