Kindle Fire (Previous Generation) - Includes Special Offers

You should be able to tell from the strip at the top or the Compare Kindles chart (linked on the left) based on what you do know, including physical dimensions, probably price, and whether it's HD or SD.

Edit to clarify

Mystique - You can go here - http://www.amazon.com/help/kindle/which/

Or look at the serial number - Settings > More > Device.

Mystique says:
Ok so mine is a 1st generation. Got it. Thank you.
So really are there any serious cons to having the first generation?

Mystique - No, if it's working and doing what you want. Some of them had defective charging ports, but you'd know that by now if yours had one. I have one and it works just fine and is a great little device.

Thank you Pineapple....but I know I have DO25..... Kindle Fire HD 7" 16gb but still don't know if its a 1st or 2nd or doesn't it matter with the Kindle Fire HD's?

If it is a Fire HD, it is a second generation, although they don't refer to the HD models in that way.

Currently, the non-HD Fire is the first generation model. All of the current HD Fires are the second generation. The rumored to be released soon Fires which Amazon has not yet mentioned, but which tech magazines have promised would come out in September, or October, will be the third generation. They will be advertised as "The New Fires" when they are released.

Trying to figure out the generation of my Kindle Fire 7 inch HD Wi-F d 8g with serial # starting 00D2 0708. I'm thinking it is a 2nd generation but not sure. Would like to have this confirmed. Also I want to get a screen protector but don't know which one is the correct size for my Fire HD 8g.

F. Crosby says:
We went to Best Buy and got our screen protectors. They were labeled for the Kindle Fire HD ...brand was Zagg. They apply them to your kindle for I think 7.95 but figured it was worth it. If not done right they redo it. Also, Zagg guarantees the protector for life.
They aren't cheap but worth it also in my opinion. We have them on our iphones also.

If I can figure out the answer to this question, anyone can! :)
I go to the menu/more at the top of my Kindle Fire, then click on Device, and it tells me the model and serial number.
