Would anyone recommend a laptop thats good for watching things online, like hulu, or downloaded movies from itunes. My old computer is too slow. I don't want anything fancy, just fast enough. I'm not good with understanding what to look for when shopping for a computer, so a name and model would be most helpful. All that talk of MB, GB, Hz... makes my head spin. Thanks for your time!

I got the ASUS 1000H here in Amazon a couple of months ago and it plays online content perfectly. You can get the latest model for $425 here on Amazon

ASUS Eee PC 1000HA 10-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel ATOM N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, 10 GB E-Storage, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery)

which is a great deal.

If you are looking for a more general purpose machine (with a DVD drive and such), you might want to take a look at this Sony VAIO (which is on sale), also here on Amazon

Sony VAIO VGN-FW240J/H 16.4-Inch Laptop (2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T5800 Processor, 4 GB RAM, 320 GB Hard Drive, Vista Premium) Gray

Good luck shopping!

Phoenix says:
If you are simply looking for something to play online video and iTunes downloads, then you don't need anything too fancy.

Depending on your taste, you could very well make do with a basic "netbook". I recommend the Acer Aspire One, more specifically the model with a 120 or 160GB hard drive. The downside to any "netbook" is that they are very small: the screen is smaller than regular laptops, and that can be a problem for some, while for others, an 8.9" diagonal screen is just fine. It's up to a person's taste.

If you don't want something as small as a netbook, and would rather like a regular laptop, it is always best to shop around. I personally would recommend a Lenovo IdeaPad Y530. You can find it at the Lenovo website, but to help you out:
http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/web/LenovoPortal/en_US/catalog.workflow:category.details?current-catalog-id=12F0696583E04D86B9B79B0FEC01C087¤t-category-id=470B0F10C05B42BF83330C5211DCE0FD

From that page, the best choice for you would be the Lenovo IdeaPad Y530 - 405162U, which is $569.99 (if you shop during Black Friday, the code USPBLACKFRIDAY makes it a bit cheaper). Lenovo is known for their amazing build quality and great customer service, but they do tend to be a little bit more expensive than some other brands.

Another brand I highly recommend is HP. They have a good build quality, but some of their models have a glossy casing, which attracts fingerprints.

I do recommend that you stay away from any Sony models. They are (often) much more expensive than comparable models from other brands, and are known to have a sub-par build quality. I would typically shy away from Dell and Toshiba as well, as Dell has horrid tech support and Toshiba laptops are often overpriced.

Before you decide that to buy, I would recommend (if one is close) going to your local Best Buy or Circuit City and test-driving some of the laptops there, to see what brand you like.

I recommend either a Lenovo IdeaPad Y530 or an HP dv5z (there are multiple dv5z models though). Both are from companies with a good build quality, and great customer service. However, nothing anyone here suggests compares to going to a store and toying around with a display model before making your choice of what brand or even model you want, but I do hope I helped at least a little in your search. :)
