So my son's big gift this year, the one from "Santa", was the Lego Police Station. He has been eyeballing that set all year, and was beyond thrilled to unwrap it Christmas morning. When we sat down to assemble it however, we were in for a nasty surprise. The factory sealed box contained the correct number of factory sealed and numbered bags (all with the Lego logo), but the bags were full of K'Nex pieces. One even had a Burger King toy in with the K'Nex bricks. How does that even happen?

The store was quick to refund my money, but of course now the Police Station is nowhere to be found. Fortunately my son was a champ about the whole thing and found his substitute gifts (including the reissue of the Lego Star Wars X-Wing Fighter) more than enough to make him happy.

How it happened: A scam artist was able to reseal the package and return it to the store with junk inside. Sucks for everyone because the effect is stores become more restrictive with legitimate returns.

Same kind of thing happened here with the Lego Harry Potter Hagrids' Hut. The parts had already been partially assembled but many missing. Very sad. Luckily the store took it right back but like you...none to be found until I looked here on Amazon. I hope it is all there....good luck to you!

If so, they did an amazing job. The bags did not look like they had ever been opened, and neither did the box. I didn't even consider that it might be a garden variety thief who was responsible.

It could be a thief or it could've been a odd (unlikely, but maybe possible) mix-up in the factory they were built. Curious as to where that particular lego set and the K'Nex bricks are actually made if overseas. Depending on just how well they were re-packaged, and if it happened elsewhere, who knows?

But otherwise it sounds like a scam. If you want the Police Station, best bet is to look at the stores or the website and not get it confused with another Police Headquarters, which is significantly more expensive now (though it is an older model).
