Conscious choice

There's the genuine evil of 'Hannibal/Silence of the Lambs' or Saruman 'Lord of the Rings', both geniune evil characters.

Or take 'Badly Behaving Dexter' or 'The Meaning Of Theft' - good characters doing bad things

But then there's Patrick Bates of 'American Psycho' - good or bad?
