Demoniac Dance (The Goblin Series)

Demoniac Dance, free today and tomorrow (4-5 May) on Amazon

A young girl flees her home and an unwanted marriage. Desperation takes her to the riverside, the site where as a toddler she was patted kindly by the goblin who had befriended the human ruler, Count Anton. But another memory of that day unsettles her as she pushes the small boat into the current. A memory of bubbles in the river, and of blood. There's something in the water still.

Driven by a premonition that she belongs with the people across the river, she soon meets the children of Magicians...and of goblins. Yet there are greater challenges to face.

In the midst of conflict between species and between the ever combative northern and southern humans, a new enemy arises from over the sea. Foreign humans come to invade, expecting an easy conquest of the rich lands that Count Anton has so wisely kept productive of food supplies. The goblins see the danger of this invasion to their own uneasy peace with the familiar local humans, but they disagree among themselves as to whether they will best serve their kind by helping the surface dwellers, or by leaving all humans to kill each other once and for all.

Thanks for this post. My new book, The Lost Line (The Enemy Heir) is a different type of traditional fantasy. The heroes are an ordinary family caught up in a war for the soul of their land and in the crosshairs of an enemy bent on destroying the king and kingdom to whom they are loyal. If you are looking for something different from the traditional "elf, dwarve, secret sword, vampire, I've heard this before" stuff that has been published lately, I think you will enjoy this. I would appreciate some real feedback as well. Thanks.

I've just added a new Steampunk title
The Wake of the Dragon: A Steampunk Adventure

No sane airshipman will fly near a storm, but the cover of storm edge offers effective concealment for airship pirates who can strike quickly from above before anyone knows a ship is near. With the protection of Aide, the goddess of air travel, one airship defies the elements to seek fortune for the rag tag aerialists who make up the pirate crew.

The elements are the least of their problems when they find themselves saddled with an airsick clerk, a crewmember suspected of working for the East India Company and a love sick farm girl whose headstrong misconceptions compel her to seek adventure where no decent woman would wander unescorted.

Battling businessmen, mechanoids and villagers armed with torches and pitchforks, Captain Bonny must decide who to trust, and if the only rational course of action is one of apparent madness.

THE NAN TU - Southern Swallow Book II (480 Pages)

Li K'ai-men is now the Emperor's right hand man, but separated from his family, Li's career has become a liability. With the court on the move Southward, invasions coming from the north, rebellions percolating in the South and a cauldron of political intrigue roiling at every turn, the Sung Dynasty doesn't look long for this world. However, Heaven is not ready to close it down yet . The Nan Tu is the extraordinary tale of the Southern Migration that will leave you yearning for more . . . and there is more in this five book series, this being only book two.
5 book series, also publiched are:
THE ACADEMICIAN - Southern Swallow Book I
Swan Cloud - Southern Swallow Book III
coming soon The House of Green Waters and Vagrants Hollow

Here's what readers say about The Nan Tu - Southern Swallow Book II

"As with The Academician, this story is a vivid, imaginative, and often humorous romp through a pivotal point in Chinese history. Book II blossoms into a tense tale of intrigue, court politics, treachery and war. The plot is much more complex that the first book, and more interesting. It kept me up several nights, not wanting to put it down. The author's consummate skill at crafting prose and his well-researched details kept me fully engaged until the last page. I would recommend this read to anyone who enjoys multifaceted characters, humor, and a well-crafted story. " - Alan Ch'in - Rainbow Reviews

"Edward C. Patterson's ability to eloquently produce book after book, not only about the China series, but his other books of different subjects, amazes me. The Nan Tu is an amazing second book in the Southern Swallow books. This is a masterful book and I cannot wait for the next installment " - ellen George, Amazon Top 1000 Reviewer

"In this Book 2 of the Southern Swallow Series, Edward C Patterson takes the reader once again to ancient China and the historical events which split a great country into two dynasties. Patterson's trademark character study and development further shine in this offering. Those who enjoyed The Academician - Southern Swallow - Book I will enjoy this chapter of the tale as well. The Southern Swallow Series provides the back story of the relics that are front in center in the Jade Owl series. The key difference between the two series is The Jade Owl relies much more on the fantasy elements to drive the story, while The Southern Swallow Series is steeped in 12th century Chinese history. Overall, The Nan Tu is an engaging and educational addition to Patterson's vast collection of works." - Todd Fonseca,

THE DRAGON'S POOL - The Jade Owl Legacy - Book III (704 pages)

The Jade Owl has disappeared again, but the spirits that do its bidding have not. Curator-General Rowden Gray is faced with his most colossal challenge so far as he and the China Hands ride the whirlwind to the Dragon's Pool, revealing its secrets and its destiny. The third book in The Jade Owl series, The Dragon's Pool will keep you deep between its covers all summer.
5 Book series - others published are:
The Third Peregrination (The Jade Owl Legacy)
The People's Treasure (The Jade Owl Legacy) and
coming Spring 2012 In the Shadow of Her Hem

Here's what readers say about The Dragon's Pool

"In this third installment of the Jade Owl Legacy, Edward C. Patterson once again delivers on an intriguing fantasy. Whereas the first two books focus around the relics which drive much of the story, this book takes a moment to fill in the back story for the main characters. Patterson weaves a complex and detailed tapestry of families, legend, history, destiny, politics, love interests, and conspiracy all with an international flair including the requisite destinations of San Francisco and China with substantial time also dedicated to Italy. Patterson has truly created an expansive and epic series with the Jade Owl Legacy. Though all warrants appear closed at the end of this installment, Patterson throws in a unexpected twist at the end leaving the door open for the next adventure." - Todd Fonseca -

"The Dragon's Pool is the third in a masterful series by Edward C. Patterson. He is a Sinologist extraordinairre. In The Jade Owl, we meet most of our protagonists in San Francisco, Nick Battle, and his life-partner, Simon/Simone, Rowden Gray, and the rest of the 'China Hands' that include some of the best sinologists all interweaved in the history of China and the current study of China. The end of The Dragon's Pool is one of the most spectacular I have ever read and couldn't have even imagined, but not only is amazing, but shows love, hope and one hopes Mr. Patterson is writing book 4 of this wonderful series as fast as he can. Mr. Patterson is a writer who knows his subject matter like no other, and he literally brings you with him in this wild ride of a series." - ellen geroge, Amazon Top 1000 reviewer

"Another volume of adventure and fantasy for those who don't like fantasy by this talented writer." - Libby Cone.

The People's Treasure - 652 pages

Before the first Emperor conquered the Han peoples and the world came under the sway of Heaven, the villagers of Yu-shui-ch'ien paid homage to the creatures under Mount Li, pledging to keep the ch'i world alive and the feathered-kin's lineage intact. In return, they received a great gift - a treasure that promised them power beyond aspiration. Now the China Hands hear this prophesy from the three women. Now Rowden Gray must gather the relics to redeem the promise - to awake the sleeping and the dead. It is the time for the heroes to seal this pact before the Moon days devour the Earth.

The People's Treasure (Book IV of the Jade Owl Legacy) resuscitates the green hoot bird from its hiding place and sends it on a journey back to its source - a race across three continents. It sets Professor Gray and his China Hand adventurers on the brink - a showdown with their ultimate challenger. The most action-packed installment in the series, The People's Treasure is a full-spectrum tale of those infected by the jade relic. The ageless mysteries are finally revealed and Professor Gray's team must face a grave responsibility when the villagers stir and the feathered-kin awake.
5 Book series - others published are:
The Third Peregrination (The Jade Owl Legacy)
The Dragon's Pool (The Jade Owl Legacy) and
coming Spring 2012 In the Shadow of Her Hem

Here's what readers say about The People's Treasure

"In The People's Treasure Patterson's engaging style and unique voice once more entertains readers with this fantasy series. Weaving together important questions of the human condition - learning to live with loss, doing what feels right versus what might seem logical, putting family first, following a higher calling - along with an epic fantasy involving supernatural relics, this tome moves along quickly holding the readers interest." - Tidd Fonseca,

"Mr. Patterson knows his Chinese history, being a sinologist, and he gives us rich descriptions of modern and ancient China. " - ellen george

Hello all:

My first book, Magnus: The Gathering Storm, will be free from Sunday May 13th to Tuesday May 15th. It's about 200 pages (75,000 words or so) and the second in the series is well on the way to completion. It's only been online for a day or two, so I am eager to get reader feedback.

This is a classical fantasy of the sort that I like reading. Enjoy.

Gaspar The Thief

This is a new humorous fantasy adventure by British author, David A. Lindsay.

Follow the adventures of Gaspar, a freelance thief who stubbornly refuses to join the Thieves' Guild. Finding himself entangled in a series of mishaps and misfortunes mostly of his own making, and facing looming retribution from every quarter, he finally departs his native city.

Brigands, sells-swords, goblin warlords, mages and even a tricksy wight all seem to have it in for him as he travels across the world of Lindor, stumbling from one calamity to the next, and yet somehow always surviving to tell the tale.

Told with humour, this is an exciting romp based in a fantasy world where anything can, and does, happen!

Soon he discovers that there are many relics and they all flow together again. 5 Book series - others published are:
The Dragon's Pool (The Jade Owl Legacy)
The People's Treasure (The Jade Owl Legacy) and
coming Spring 2012 In the Shadow of Her Hem

Here's what readers say about The Third Peregrination

"The Third Peregrination manages to be just as exciting and original as the first in this series, The Jade Owl." - Libby Cone

"Author Patterson never drops a stitch nor leaves a subplot dangling. Rife with suspense, character development, and a newly intensified focus on the paranormal, The Third Peregrination is a valid stand-alone novel, but will also inspire readers new to The Jade Owl Legacy to seek out the first volume and to eagerly anticipate the next book in the set. Once again, Mr. Patterson delivers don't miss excitement. Run, do not walk, to your nearest bookselling outlet and enjoy The Third Peregrination." - Rainbow Reviews

"Just when you think a series can't get better, sometimes you receive a wonderful surprise that the sequel in its own way outshines the original work. Fasten your seatbelts, and enjoy the ride!!!" - ellen George, Amazon Top 1000 Reviewer

"Where the first book was more cerebral and even paced, this 600 plus page novel really amps up the action and fantasy elements. As always, Patterson's accomplished technique and writing style are spot on. His characters are real and descriptions vivid. Similar to the first novel, I enjoyed the historical fiction and cultural lessons imparted throughout this novel. 5-stars!" - Todd Fonseca,

"As a hard core action adventure lover, this ramped up action had me hooked like a carp. The action scenes did not seem to be contrived or superfluous. I was surprised by two of those action scenes because I can generally tell when an author is leading up to such a scene. Mr. Patterson revealed the ability to take me by surprise in this book. That's not easy to do to a hard core action adventure reader who has read the number of books that I've read." - Ricky Sides
