My book, Remembered Childhoods, lists and describes 2,800 memoirs that focus on the first 21 years of the writers' lives--from all over the world, as long as they're written or translated into English. It's indexed by subject, author, place, title and has a list of coming-of-age themed movies, as well.

Tom Sawyer In Hell by Peter Black. A coming of age memoir.

Only 99 cents in the kindle store

Also available in paperback.

All life is a series of stories and Tom Sawyer in Hell is mine. The
narrative follows the misadventures of a naive young man who has
optimistic expectations about life that rapidly go south as he makes
his way through three colleges on two coasts, courts and jails and
small town lawyers, strip clubs, a gig as a Park Avenue doorman,
hopelessness, psychopharmacology, absurdity, and the struggle to land a corporate job.

You may also be interested in my first book 'The Heart of The Sun'. The stories are of a little boy growing up in Guyana (South America) in the 70's, under the Burnham dictatorship. There are also some poetry about introspection and philosophical thoughts.

With everything in the news today about child molesters, the Jerry Sandusky trial and the ongoing scandals within the Catholic Church, I've recently gotten a book published that you might find very topical. It will help anyone who's interested to understand how this kind of thing continues to happen. It will also give you insight into the affect this type of abuse has on someone that young. It's called "Unraveling Charlie"
If you are interested please go to my website where you can read some sample chapters.

Check out The Avocado Tree. A coming-of-age memoir told from the adult vantage point of Shon Franklin, who on a quest for forgiveness, clarity, and resolve, recounts his seemingly normal eleven year old life, gone awry, circa 1984. Just when he comes to terms with his parent's recent divorce, Shon's mother, Sharon, leaves her parental obligations in Inglewood, California behind for the fast life back in her hometown of Chicago, leaving ex-husband, Earl Jr. to raise Shon and his two young siblings. Now a seemingly motherless child, Shon must learn to cope with abandonment, family misfortune, and congenital dysfunction, all while sorting through life's formative lessons in love, sex, street ethics, and moral character.

Lesbian Crushes and Bulimia: A Diary on How I Acquired my Eating Disorder

A true story set in 1989, nineteen year old Natasha, obsessively in love with her former school teacher Miss Williams, struggles with her infatuations with women. Having sex with boys, she earns the condemnation of gay and straight worlds. Feeling too fat to deserve romantic involvement with another girl, Natasha stops eating.

The book describes in detail Natasha's clumsy attempts at heterosexuality, the obsessive clinging to unrequited love, her embracing of sexual harassment, and her dysfunctional relationship with body image and food.

The Dream Time: An Account of a Ninth Grade Girl of the 60s

Natasha, your book sounds very interesting and unique. In my memoir I also have a strong crush on my woman teacher, more from an admiring-her standpoint. I also have a crush on my short homely art teacher, a man whom I love passionately in my daydreams! I'm only 14-15 years old. Please any who have interest in memoirs look into my book The Dream Time, which has five star reviews, even from people who don't know me!
