I agree - I kind of see the Scorps and Priest as more or less equals - they both started in the early 70s and produced some groundbreaking 70s metal, both had leanings towards "true metal" and a more pop sensibility. (Admittedly, Priest leaned a little more metal in their later albums like "Painkiller"). I think I like the Scorps better, though (but, then, I got into the Scorps as a teenager and Priest much later, so the Scorps have the nostalgia value).

Anyway, Eye II Eye isn't a complete stinker - take off the full-on R&B songs, and you still have a decent (if unusual) 35-minute Scorps album - "Mind Like A Tree" and "Yellow Butterfly" are really good songs that kind of remind me of "We'll Burn The Sky".

Michael's soloing on the first album is fantastic - I particularly like the extended "Lonesome Crow" song. What sets it apart from a lot of the late 60s "guitar god" stuff, is that the backing music changes under the soloing. (A lot of those classic rock bands would drag out a one-bar rhythm for 10 minutes so the guitarist could go nuts, but it got boring because he was just playing over the same backing - this song really gives the guitarist something to shine over. Plus, Schenker was inspired on that album).

Dark Lady
We'll Burn The Sky
Sails of Charon
Coast to Coast
Is There Anybody There?
The Zoo
Don't Stop At The Top
Coming Home
Ship of Fools
Stone in my Shoe
Hour I and Humanity(although I find the "Humanity Hour I" album to be weak - the sound is great, but the producer-songwriters made the songs drag)
No Limit

I pretty much like most of their songs (some of the R&B stuff on "Eye II Eye" and the less-rocking bits of "Humanity" being the main exceptions). I actually made myself a nice compilation of non-album tracks by downloading the bonus tracks from various compilations on Amazon - it's like having a "lost" Scorpions album. The song "Cause I Love You" is one of the better ones, but there's an album's worth of solid Scorps tracks I found.

Ash Krueger says:
I heard a while back the band was actually intending to release a new album or maybe even box that contained just those "lost" tracks, bonus tracks, B-sides, remixes, and even a few unreleased tunes. Personally I would love for that to happen. Every one of the tracks I've heard that were cut from the albums were actually good songs. Rare indeed that that would be the case.

Wow, Krueger. That would be really cool. They need to do their back catalogue up right. Kind of neglected compared to many bands reissues.
