To quote him from a previous post....."Can't you find any music that you actually like enough to inspire you to start a thread about it? I mean I don't care what you start threads about, be as off-topic as you want, It's all good, but some people here have seen certain topics dozens upon dozens of times"........

Well put WNBS........hence this....

I'm a stickler for old-school country.....I love my Carcass, and Napalm Death like the next guy....but I'm known to spin an old George Jones, or Merle Haggard CD in between my deathly choices from time to time.........so.....any closet listeners out there?.....maybe it's a Texas thing?...................and no I don't like sheep that way......................

How did MY NAME get on the country thread? hahahaha. Maybe it's the New Yorker in me, but I couldn't listen to a whole country music album all the way through at gunpoint. Old country, new country it doesn't matter. Cool if you like it, but count me out.

"I couldn't listen to a whole country music album all the way through at gunpoint"....lol

and for the record imo new country doth bloweth........but man, gimme a bottle of SoCo,& put on George Jones' "He Stopped Loving Her Today"........that dude will make yer bottom lip quiver...lol

I could see WNBS with Robert Plant inspired locks gettin down to some old-school honky-tonk!!!!

Faith Hill's prelude song before Sunday Night Football starts is my only pick, because of her not the song.

He said "Drifter can ya make folks cry when you play and sing?
Have you paid your dues, can you moan the blues?
Can you bend them guitar strings?"
He said "Boy, can you make folks feel what you feel inside?
Cause if you're big star bound let me warn ya, its a long, hard ride"

And ditto... todays POP country sucks... of course... thats pretty much true of all things POP.

Hammer

Thanks to my Dad was raised on all the old C&W, bluegrass, honky tonking stuff. I lived in Bakersfield for awhile and not only did I go to Buck Owen's Crystal Palace but met the man a few years before his passing.

other artists I like

Johnny Cash
Kitty Wells
Patsy Cline
Merle Haggard
Loretta Lynn
Marty Robbins
Waylon Jennings
Townes Van Zandt
Skeeter Davis
Wanda Jackson
George Jones

and I also like Gram Parsons/Flying Burrito Brothers, Poco, and bands that have a folk/country sound in general. Hmmm guess it's no wonder why my two fave artists ever are Bob Dylan and Neil Young?

As far as "newish" country, I mostly like the 70's outlaw country stuff
Merle Haggard
Waylon Jennings
Willie Nelson (although alot of his stuff is too sappy sentimental for me)
Johnny Cash
Kris Kristopherson
David Allen Coe
and some random ones
Patsy Cline
Tammy Wynette
The Carter Family

I actually enjoy the roots of country music more than most actual country music. I dig bluegrass, american folk, slave songs, blues. All of that stuff.

Best country song I ever heard is "Harder Than Your Husband" by Frank Zappa.

The problem with current pop country is that it fails to tell a story... the great old country songs all tell a story, when i listen to country, thats what i want to hear.
