So, remember that time Metallica did an album with Lou Reed? I totally forgot about it until this morning when I came across a copy x-mas shopping. Personally I have nothing bad to say about Lou Reed even though I'm not a huge fan of his music. I've also, conversely, never been a big Metallica fan but they can play. Or at least they used to. But think about this: had they had a rad singer at the helm they could have made a vastly different album. One that may have been a masterpiece. Lets hope another atrocity like Lulu never materializes. Lets tell Metallica or any other band who they can and cannot collaborate with for the sake of all self-respecting metal heads everywhere (Theoretically of course). So, take a singer from a band that is rarely or never considered metal and put him at the head of a legitimate metal act. Go!

Iggy Pop/Metallica- Godfather of punk, nuff said.

Roger Daltrey/Black Sabbath- I think with his trademark scream and rough vocal style he could pull off some interesting doom tunes. Besides Michael Bolton almost got the job once so stranger things have happened.

David Johansen/Motley Crue- Pretty much what Vince Neil aspired to be.

I could see Vinnie Paz fronting Cannibal Corpse. Andrea Bocelli could front Maiden. Luciano Pavarotti could be in Sabbath. Priest, well... no-one can replace Halford, sorry. Reba McEntire would be a step up for Mastodon. Jello Biafra would take BtBaM right over the top.

Frank Fontaine could do candlemass or cathedral or even solitude aeturnus.
This guy is from old Jackie Gleason shows for those who never heard of him.

Lady GaGa for Mercyful Fate and DMX for Cannibal Corpse...

Noooooooooo! Not Lady Gaga! Then again, if she wears King's makeup everyone in the metal community will be raving about her again because she's "not just another pop singer, she's real."

Tom Waits/Celtic Frost?
Matthew Bellamy/Queensryche?

DMX. What a character. I like his story about how he took Jay-Z to the brink of defeat in an earth-shaking freestyle battle in the early 90's. Whomever he told that tale to, I can hypothesize with respect to their responses:

"That's amazing, Dawg. More amazing than the time Michael Jackson came over to your house to use the bathroom."
"More amazing than the time you saved those old people from that nursing home fire, right?"
"Yeah, and I bet it was even more amazing than the time you ate your weight in Godfather's pizza, right?"

Nightwish had an opera singer, and it was pretty cool and original.
It might be interesting if Candace Night and Ritchie Blackmore did an album of "Battle Rages On" type Deep Purple sounding stuff (maybe I need to pick up the Rainbow album from the 90s?), and she might be able to pull of power metal (she guests on a Helloween song, but it's a ballad).

Nightwish had a *second-rate* opera singer. I've heard her feeble attempt at "The Phantom of the Opera". She couldn't hit Sarah Brightman's ending E6 in her wildest dreams.

D. Mok says:
Nightwish's version of "Phantom" is also already lowered in key from the original Crawford/Brightman version. Nightwish's singers couldn't do those vocals at all even in the new key.

Bob Dylan fronting Sepultura
Amy Grant fronting Deicide
Biz Markie fronting Judas Priest
Prussian Blue fronting Living Colour
Clay Aiken fronting Slayer
Charlotte Church fronting Black Sabbath
William Hung fronting Queensryche
Tom Waits fronting Rush
