Anybody here into Japanese Metal? like...Dir En Grey, X Japan, The GazettE? I've been getting into a lot of Japanese (and some Korean) music this year, and was wondering if any of you guys here were into that stuff, and if you are, what bands do you like/should I check out?

I really like X Japan's "Jealousy" and "Blue Blood" albums. Also, in terms of classic Japanese metal, I love Loudness. They made some killer tunes. Definitely one of the better Japanese metal bands. Check out "Thunder in the East" and "Lightning Strikes." Earthshaker, Anthem, Boris, Flower Travellin' Band, Doom, Bow Wow, 44 Magnum, and Grief of War may be worth checking out as well.

Ritual Carnage needs to be mentioned here. Phenomenal Death/Thrash from the late 90's/early 2000's. The Highest Law is pure gold.

Two Japanese bands I really enjoy are Argument Soul and Outrage. Argument Soul play a power/thrash hybrid and there are some strong Iron Maiden influences in the lead guitar work. Outrage are straight down the line and play their thrash metal like old-school Metallica, even from a vocal perspective. I will second Ash's comment by saying that one of the oldest surviving Japanese bands around is Loudness and if my estiminates are correct, they have been playing since 1981 and still going strong - good choice of albums there to investigate. Another Japanese band, Sigh, play an avantgarde style of metal and add some really strange influences to their music - not really my cup of tea so to speak.

Has anybody mentioned Sigh yet? Those guys play a variety of music along with black metal and they're way better than Iwrestledabearonce.

Not to be confused with Andy Sneap's Sabbat, who hail from the United Kingdom.

Whoa......bearded hustler. How can you mention one tihsstorm, (Sabbat) and continue on to an even worse one (Gallhammer)?

Try some Shadow. Melodic Death.

Lock & Loll! Do they all sing in engrish? Are there any with all Japanese lyrics?

Massground has Engrish down unlike anything I've ever seen. Nice guys, though. Exact quotes from an e-mail they sent me:
"i am ryuji from japanese MASSGROUND singer"
"thanks for your added to MASSGROUND data on encyclopaedia"
"today, send you some new photos about MASSGROUND. stay evil"

It does tend to understate the evilness of the object.

Hee. I wouldn't consider Shadow circus music. I was scrolling through one of the "lists" posted on Amazon (not A. Stutheit's either) and found them. The beauty of it was finding it for dirt cheap. Good band = yes, Epic = not by any means. Then again, I'm not too fond of any Japanese Bands that I have come across.

No confusion here. Sabbat- black metal. Sabbat-old school thrash.
