I had an idea for a Game, one I thought we all could play. The game is called The Top Ten Slasher Film Game. This will be how it works.

1. One voting post per day. Two [++] upvotes for your favorite; Three [---] downvotes for your least favorite.
2. When a Slasher film reaches '0' points, or '50' they will be eliminated and *NOT* replaced.
3. The game will be called when we reach a top 10 list (*That is, if anyone wants to play*).
4. Conversations are allowed, *BUT* you absolutely must play the game.
5. Remember to name whom you are following, and to Cut and Paste the last list posted and please inform us at the bottom of the page which movies you have added and subtracted from.
6. Recommendations on films to add are welcome.
7. We play by Amazon time, with days starting at Midnight.

Here are the films,

What's the name of the film that Greymung sent the youtube clip of to me?

I have no idea.

Kacee says:
JB, surely you must know? You appear to have a huge knowledge of slasher films. I'll go and retrieve it and post it here for you to look at. :)

In reply to an earlier post on Oct 28, 2012 3:33:19 PM PDT
I'll take a look and see if I can help, but only if you play the game. *gives puppy eyes* ;-) *Smiles*

Kacee says:
I've only seen Psycho, and I would never watch any of the others on the list so I won't be playing. Sorry.
My favourite films are westerns, comedies, drama, Jake Gyllenhaal showing his willie, that type of film.

In reply to an earlier post on Oct 28, 2012 3:53:40 PM PDT
That's okay. I was only kidding. *Smiles*

J. Baker says:
Doing a twice-over on the list I notice 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre' isn't on the list. I'm not recommending it, it's most surprising though.
If I were recommending superior slasher films apparently not on the list:

Twitch of the Death Nerve / Bay of Blood (1971, Mario Bava)
The House with Laughing Windows (1976, Pupi Avati)
Blood and Black Lace (1964, Mario Bava)
Death Valley (1982, Díck Richards)
The Boogeyman (1980, Ulli Lommel)
Peeping Tom (1960, Michael Powell)
What Have You Done to Solange? (1975, Massimo Dallamano)
Tenderness of the Wolves (1973, Ulli Lommel)
Candyman (1992, Bernard Rose)
Hands of the Ripper (1971, Peter Sasdy)
Monkey Shines (1988, George A. Romero)
The Arousers / Sweet Kill (1973, Curtis Hanson)
The Silent Scream (1980, Denny Harris)
Frightmare / Cover Up (1974, Pete Walker)
Twisted Nerve (1968, Roy Boulting) *this is the movie that Tarantino got the Morricone "whistling theme" from that he used in 'Kill Bill' so prolifically.*
Nightwatch (1994, Ole Bornedal)
Two Thousand Maniacs! (1964, Herschell Gordon Lewis)
When a Stranger Calls (1979, Fred Walton)
Next of Kin (1982, Tony Williams)
The Slumber Party Massacre (1982, Amy Holden Jones and written by feminist activist Rita Mae Brown.)
The Wizard of Gore (1970, Herschell Gordon Lewis)

{I copied this partially from my old post on the thread "Most Horrifying or Shocking scene in a movie", where I was using intelligent examples of the slasher form to defend the genre against simplistic moralizing nuisances who think only deranged sickies watch such movies... well, as we can observe, sometimes the deranged sickies in our society are those calling for a ban on all slashers, heavy metal, rap, pointy sticks, whathaveyou.}
--------

And I would specify that you don't mean the remake of 'Black Christmas', but the 1974 Bob Clark original.

I'll add the films you've posted. They all should be on the list. I'll re post using your most recent post and I'll put them in alphabetical order to make things easier. Thanks for the help.

J. Baker says:
Oh, it's just the first seven I would really recommend.
Probably not enough people have seen 'Tenderness of the Wolves' to vote on it, and it's not in my top 5 so I'd probably ignore it too.

I'm a fan of 'Twisted Nerve' and 'When a Stranger Calls' too, but again, not so much that I'd vote on them. We can see what happens anyway! Who knows, there might be some diehard Herschell Gordon Lewis fans out there...

'Twitch of the Death Nerve' is probably the most influential slasher this side of 'Psycho'. And it deserves even more attention. Bava is really the first to master the style, when it started becoming a full subgenre. Argento followed right after, with his Hitch-inspired debut ('Bird').

JB,

How about you list the the losers only in the original post? In a regular elimination game like this one we don't really have a call for Movie Heaven/Hell.
This is a Last Film Standing sort of game, unless you want to put a cap on the high scores as I did with the Cult and Hitchcock games.
Maybe that would be a good idea. Depends on how many players we get for this one.

One good thing about listing the losers is, if you are going to continue taking recommendations then that will allow people to scan what's already been played out.

I can do that, That'll be easier. And if more people come and play to keep them up to date I'll start posting a heaven and hell thing. Thanks for the help.

+ A Bay of Blood / Twitch of the Death Nerve
+ The Bird with the Crystal Plumage
--- TCM (yikes, I wish I hadn't mentioned it)

** Note: I fixed the alphabetical order to ignore the "The" or "A" of a title, which traditionally is ignored alphabetically.
And since 'Twitch' is listed on IMDb as 'A Bay of Blood', I listed both titles to avoid confusion.
Not sure why some of these have dates and some don't. As far as I'm aware, there's only one movie called 'Tenebrae', and which version of 'Maniac' is meant is only a guess.
