J. Baker says:
Good evening, boys and ghouls, all the creatures of the night.
Here is yet another thread where you may discuss your favorite movies, this time with an un-dead theme, and have the chance to vote each day on what you want to have continue walking, stalking, or flying through the night, and what you would like to have taken out, banished from this earth.

Rules:
This is a 3 point UP ONLY (revised) per post. First movies to 100 points ranked thereon.
Following Amazon's Pacific Time, one voting session per day, Midnight to 11:59PM.
Use points in each post however you wish; please say at the end of the post what your choices were for, and note that once a title reaches down to 0, it is taken off the list forever.

No animation or TV.
I've tried to include most of the popular and critically heralded favorites that fit.
Suggestions for inclusion are always welcome, but as the list is already fairly long, I'll need no less than two nominations for a particular title.
There will potentially be no limit to how many new inclusions are allowed, except that no more than 45 titles may appear on the list at any one time, so there may be a wait necessary at times if many players want an added favorite. The first week is one of those times, since we're running with a full load here. It may take several days before there's room for more.

A minute into the new thread and I realize I already made an error: I meant to write "poltergeists" (those capable of physical disturbances), not "phantoms" (no physical presence except in the mind).

J. Baker says:
I think I screwed up one other thing: Emma might have meant the remake of 'The Crazies'.
I haven't seen that. Is that better than Romero's? Ever since the 'Dawn' remake, I refuse to see remakes of Romero.

Oz le Fou says:
I haven't seen it. I mean to. After re-watching the original I actually thought, "This film could probably do with a remake." And lo and behold, there's Timothy Olyphant in a remake! If it is worse than the original, then new-low on the remake front has been reached (I hope she meant the remake, and that it is good, and that I didn't start proceedings in a battle with Em).

-3 Anne Rice's hysterical queens masquerading as vampires

I would propose two mummy additions: Blood From The Mummy's Tomb (the first, and best, version of The Jewel of Seven Stars) and Sommer's reincarnation of The Mummy. Frankly, better than Fisher's--and I am a great fan of Hammer.

No I meant the original Crazies. Actually I had completely forgotten there was a remake. Don't worry Sloany, I enjoyed it but I'm not married to it. Battle diverted! Unfortunately, Baker isn't so lucky. Zombies + Dr. Who + Apocalypse + Cillian Murphy = EMMA IS IN HEAVEN!

Muppets,
I'd start with Shaun of the Dead. It's a British Comedy/horror. My Husband is not a fan of the genre but even he likes that one. I could give you better recommendations if you want to expand on your dislikes.

J. Baker says:
Pastor: start with Romero's original 'Dawn of the Dead' to see a completely ingenious horror satire that revolutionized the horror film, and remains one of the great comedies of the 1970s.
I thought 'Zombieland' was a really lousy imitation of an imitation. Good actors wasted in a clueless script.

You mean to say you haven't seen any of these other movies?

'Nosferatu', either the Herzog revamp or the F. W. Murnau original, is a fine place to start in the vampire catalog.
'Cronos' is really fine for a modern reexamination of the myth.

Check out the Universal and Hammer horror series'. I prefer the Hammer 'Dracula', but nothing beats the Universal 'Bride of Frankenstein' (which I stupidly left off the list last night!)

In reply to an earlier post on Sep 16, 2012 3:19:16 PM PDT
Jonathan: Just added Nosferatu and Bride of Frankenstein to the queue, thanks!

Eh, I haven't seen Zombieland in something like two and a half years or so. I got a kick out of Woody Harrelson making fun of crying during Titanic.

William: "Blood From The Mummy's Tomb (the first, and best, version of The Jewel of Seven Stars) and Sommer's reincarnation of The Mummy. Frankly, better than Fisher's--and I am a great fan of Hammer."<

I don't agree about the Sommer, but I'll be happy to add 'Blood from The Mummy's Tomb' with the awesome George Coulouris as soon as there's a space available.
If someone else want to see 'The Mummy' (Brendan Fraser) on the list, go ahead and second the nomination, and it will be in line as well for inclusion.

I haven't seen The Mummy in something like 7 or 8 years. I remember it vaguely.

Woody Harrelson also made '2012' watchable for me. I sympathize. He's one of those actor's like Jack Palance or Kurt Russell that I'll watch any number of bad movies for. And man, they made a lot of bad ones!

JB,

I am not understanding why Freddy isn't on this list. I am very offended. Also, Jason and Michael Meyers could be considered "undead", as they were clearly killed 238563 times, yet "came back to life".

As for remakes that rocked, I personally thought the remake of the original Night of the Living Dead was awesome. It's the ONLY dead movie where someone actually says - Um, these zombies aren't exactly running at top speed, why don't we just WALK past them! Duh.

*Edit- I'm sorry, I have way too much to say here. What about Chucky? The Thing? The Blob? Invasion of the Body Snatchers? The Last Man on Earth/The Omega Man/I am Legend? The Haunting? House on Haunted Hill? Cabin Fever? The Descent? Amityville? Pet Semetary? Also, has anyone seen Mulberry Street?

I could name a hundred.

He means H.P. Lovecraft: Re-Animator.

The same way people sometimes use the initials affectionately for EAP (Poe) or RLS (Stevenson) or RJW (Waller)... that last one was a joke.

Duly NOted!

J. Baker says:
Q, okay, yeah, maybe we can get some Freddy on if you want. Name specific titles or I'll go with the first in the series.
And we'll need another shout in favor of the bloody one of Elm Street.

As for the 'Night of the Living Dead' remake. It was in color, so I never saw it. I'm only half-joking. The main reason I never saw it was because I can't imagine a remake being necessary, let alone improving on the first one.
Anyone else here see it?

Specific titles, eh? If I *had* to pick a favorite, I think it would be either Dream Warriors (Part III) or The Dream Master (Part IV).

But I even like the Freddy remake. And I love Freddy vs. Jason. Oh, and I can't forget A New Nightmare! Oops, Craven.
