Hopefully this will be a fun game for you guys. I've decided to take the Top 25 movies based off of IMDB's user votes and let you guys decide what order they actually belong in.

You get 2 upvotes and 2 downvotes per day, and the day goes by Pacific Standard Time, as that is Amazon's only time on these forums, and I could care less what Time Zone you are actually in. There are no other rules, and I will not ban you from playing because you disagree with me about the merits of a movie.

Do note that this list is not alphabetical because I'm leaving the movies in their top 25 positions. Please also bear in mind that this list was voted on by regular people and not professionals. I'm sure there are plenty of movies that you think belong on this list that aren't actually on here. Because I didn't make this list up, I'd really rather not do requests for this game, as there is no personal bias in this list at all.

If this game goes well we can do a top 25 based off of Metacritic's professionals scores next. That list would probably have a lot more movies that I think Baker would like to see.

Shawshank Redemption is the people's choice for greatest movie of all time? Wow.

Great film, but not #1 great.

I was just getting ready to make a vote, but then I realized that I had nothing I wanted to up-vote! None of these films are in MY top 25.

IMBd users are morons.

Yeah I figured some people wouldn't like the list. I also figured this was better than making up my own list of movies and arguing with people Epic style.

I have a serious grumble with The Shawshank Redemption at the moment.

My library card is in "delinquent" status, because they are trying to say that I didn't return the dvd. When I know d@mn well that I walked my dog down to the library the other night and put it in the drop box.

Then, this librarian who is barely speaking English (and is clearly new, because I go in there every other day, and they ALL know if I wanted to steal a dvd, it definitely wouldn't be the éffin Shawshank Redemption), says, "I can put a claim out on it, so if it turns up at any library in the system in the next 60 days you won't have to pay."

Me: "Pay what?"

Librarian: "Forty Dollars."

Me: "WHAT?"

Librarian: "Or, you can buy a new one from the store and bring it to us."

Me: [getting in a foul mood]

Librarian: "Or, if you find it at your house in the meantime, you can bring it back with no fine!"

Me: "I'm not going to FIND it at my HOUSE, because I ALREADY RETURNED IT IN THE GØDAMÑ DROP BOX!!! If you want me to go swimming around in the drop box, looking for the black hole that it disappeared into, THEN maybe I can find it!!!"

That librarian better hop-to, or I'll tell her EXACTLY what she can do with that forty dollars. We don't exactly have a {small} library system...this being the largest city in America and all...

Psh!

Oz le Fou says:
Years ago I hired 'U-571' from the Blockbuster near my house. The next day I meant to return it but forgot, and accidentally left it in my car overnight (in my back-pack, which contained various CD's and clothes). The next morning, I walk out to my car, and the side window is smashed. Back-pack gone! I grumbled about the window (it was winter, I was late for work, and near broke at the end of the week), then realized that I had left the DVD in the bag. Sooo, after work I drove to the store and told them my tale. The lady there was understanding, and said she would mark the DVD as damaged, and tell her boss she had tossed it in the bin. I gave her my winning-est smile, thanked her endlessly, and went on my way.

Next visit to the store, I walked up to the counter, gave 'em my card, and waited to pay for my next rental. "Uh, it says here you still have 'U-571'". I thought about going with the story of the damaged DVD, but realized the girl must have failed to follow through, so I told her what had happened, and that I had explained it to another girl the other day and she had decided that as it wasn't my fault so would let me off the hook. "Oh no, no, you will have to pay for it." I said ok, how much? "$200." My jaw dropped. I said they had copies on their own shelves selling for $20. I'll just buy one of those and you can keep it. "No, it doesn't work that way. We buy special copies...." At this point all I heard was "Blah blah $200 blah blah."

I declared craziness was afoot, and that $200 was a bit rich. I slammed $50 bucks on the counter and walked out. I never heard from them again. Then a couple of years later, I moved house, and went to get an account at the local Blockbuster. As they typed in my name, a red flag must have come up. The guy serving me says "Sorry...but you have been banned from all Blockbuster stores."

I sighed in relief. Blockbusters have the crappiest selection of titles anyway. Chance had it that I went to a little store deeper in the 'burbs, and have been a loyal customer there for over 10 years....and they have THE BEST selection of titles in Adelaide. Talk about every cloud has a silver lining!

And I have no idea if they are still chasing me down for that extra $150.

In reply to an earlier post on Jun 6, 2012 6:23:10 PM PDT
You gave them $50?!?

I guess my winning-est smile works on the techies at the Apple store, but does NOT work on the weird Asian woman who came down from space to work in the library tonight. This is NOT the neighborhood for her. Every other employee there is a bookish, artsy, indie-nerd with tattoos and other Riverside-esque characteristics. Quite like myself (although I don't love tattoos).

Plus, this area is pretty much the gayborhood. She is out of line.

Oh Sloany that's hilarious. Blockbuster is definitely a vile corporation. I worked there as a manager while in college. Seriously screwed up rules. The district manager wrote me up for closing the store early one evening. I closed the shop because a) we had no power and b) there was a tornado outside.

Although one cool thing did happen during my employment. We switched from VHS/DVD to strictly DVD. My instructions were to toss all VHS copies into the garbage. Garbage... the trunk of my car.... what's the difference?  My video collection increased by about 4000 that night.

That's rich. Banning you from all stores because you didn't pay a ridiculous fee for a lost movie. By the way, how did you hire U-571?

Oz le Fou says:
EMMA, that is sweeeeet! Did they try to sell off all the VHS' first? I would have been stashing all the choice titles under all the garbage titles....actually, I would have been paranoid the whole time when people started fishing under those on top! "Oh no, that kid is gonna find the copy of 'The Hitcher' that i stashed under the 'Psycho' remake!".

PS - lets just hope that the tornado sent a cow flying through the living room of that district manager!

"The winds really picking up.."
"That store better still be open!"
"Always thinking about money, aren't you dear...."
[Smash...Bang...CRASH]
"MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO......."

Andrew, do you mean "how did i like U-571?"

Well, I can't remember a single frame after all the kerfuffle! Needless to say I've held an irrational grudge against the film ever since. It might be a fantastic film, but I ain't goin' anywhere near it, ever again!

Sloany <Did they try to sell off all the VHS' first?>

Oddly no. I was just instructed to destroy all the VHS rental copies and any new items (which is how I ended up with Jaws). Any previously used VHS for sale was to be left alone. I never did understand that corporation.

Oh and I took it all no matter what it was. Bad point: I did end up with 28 copies of The Wedding Planner. Good point: I finally had something to hand out the next Halloween.
