+ Buscemi as the beatnik bartender:
"Martinis are for squares, man."

Norville Barnes: .... No, I think it more likely that you were a gazelle, with long, graceful legs, gamboling through the underbrush. Perhaps we met once, a chance encounter in a forest glade. I must have been an antelope or an ibex.
What times we must have had. Foraging together for sustenance, snorfling water from a forest stream, picking the grubs and burrs from one another's coats. Or perhaps we simply touched our horns briefly and went our separate ways.
Amy Archer: I wish it were that simple, Norville. I wish I was still a gazelle, and you were an antelope or an ibex.
Norville Barnes: Well, can I at least call you deer?
Seriously, Amy, the whole thing is what your beatnik friends call a kar-MAH -- Amy Archer: Karma.
Norville Barnes: -- the great circle of life.
Amy Archer: Yeah, yeah. I think I've heard of that. What goes around comes around.
Norville: That's it. A great wheel that gives us each what we deserve...

JNagarya says:
Whether Christianity is an "ethos" is hardly unique to Christianity, therefore is not noteworthy

Buddhism is a superior -- and mature -- system of ethics. And unlike Chritistianty it doesn't encourage irrational nonsense -- the football player who scores a touchdown praises Christ, as if he didn't score it himself; but if he fumbles, he blames himself.

Otherwise, as practiced in the US, Christianity is not Christianity: it is a fount of competitive superiority, which it insists on shoving into others' faces without regard for MANNERS; on which is based numerous bigotries -- I made no mention of Christianity; and encourages egotism and the greed based thereon.

JN - "the football player who scores a touchdown praises Christ, as if he didn't score it himself; but if he fumbles, he blames himself."

Thanking God for the touchdown is the same as saying that God has forsaken the entire opposing team. It's like saying "God chose ME, not YOU". While it is harmless, it is still something that has always irked me.

Not for days! Man I wanna, but it's not easy with the fam staying over.

Expect me to be a less frequent forumite for a few weeks. The thing is, my dad-in-law just plonks himself down at the computer and doesn't move all day. It's...irksome. But also, we're expecting a baby this Tuesday, so....I may be a little busy.

"You know, you know, a friend of mine a while back broke his hand and put it in a cast. Very next day, he falls, protects his bad hand, and he breaks his good one. So he breaks it too, you know. So, now he's got two busted flippers. So, I says to him: "Creighton," I says. + Intolerable Cruelty, gets so much undeserved hate. It's a frequently brilliant screenplay, better than 99.999999% of comedy scripts out there. . .

"You should have seen this coming you Australian piece of shďt!"

Mrs. Gutman: Sometimes there would be a gizmo.
Lawyer: A gizmo?
Mrs. Gutman: He had a device he called the Intruder. It was something he had the engineers at the factory design. And then he had a prototype built out of the parts from our vacuum cleaner.
Lawyer: I see.
Mrs. Gutman: So the vacuum cleaner wasn't available to me for several months.
Lawyer: Several months *without the appliance*.
Mrs. Gutman: Yes.

+ "Maybe we'll have tea sometime."

Love the scene with the bumped off Rug Daniels, who's found lying in an alley with his toupee askew, and the little street urchin comes along with his dog and yanks it and takes off running!

Leo O'Bannion: You hear about Rug?
Tom Reagan: Yeah, RIP.
Leo O'Bannion: They took his hair, Tommy. Jesus, that's strange, why would they do that?
Tom Reagan: Maybe it was injuns.
