J. Baker says:
If you liked the Actor's Game, and tolerate the Movie game, you may be able to stomach the Director's Game...

______ ______ ______ ______ ______ ______
Rules are same a usual for this type:

A) Each person's allowed 1 up-vote and 1 down-vote per day, using Amazon time.
Copy the last post if you can, and add your votes. Otherwise, state what your choices are, and the next player will add them in. (Giving credit to the previous poster and mentioning what you voted for can be helpful).

B) Once a name reaches 10 points, they enter the pantheon of directors.
Once a director gets to down to 0, they're sent to the basement for rehabilitation.

C) Whether a director reaches 0 or 10, keep the name on the list until the next player adds a new director. When adding a new one, you may vote them up to 6 or down to 4, otherwise each new addition will start at 5 points.
______ ______ ______ ______ ______ ______ ______

Thanks to Amazon for providing the bandwidth, thanks to S. Architect for importing the idea for this form of game on these movie threads, also thank-you's go out to Emma, Pastor, and Toby for encouraging the idea of ANOTHER game in this style.

__ __ __
Special note: no director is off limits. Popular choices usually stand a better chance for success, of course, but don't be afraid to get creative in picking directors, be they cult favorites, big-budget Hollyweird players, little-known artistes, or all-time legends. Let's try and give every sort of filmmaker a looking over, and a working over when necessary!
No smoking, flaming, or trolling is permitted within the bounds of this thread. Have fun when possible.

J. Baker says:
My guess is Robert Rodriguez mistakenly ordered a heap of monogrammed sheets and pajamas for his first son (Rocket?) and decided to name accordingly after that.
There's still enough for a couple other young'uns I hear... Rapscallion Rodriguez and Rasputina Rodriguez?

Re: "sure set Rodriguez [up] for an early fall"

That wasn't the intention. I thought there might be an even chance for R. R., if Cali Coup and another fan found this game in time.

Welcome, WAS and CDM.
I'd like to hear your respective favorites from the Holland and Preminger catalogs.
For Holland, I'm often impressed by the high caliber of performances she gets from her actors, particularly the children. Best I've seen: 'Angry Harvest' and 'The Secret Garden'. Anne Heche and Ed Harris get top acting honors in Holland's 'The Third Miracle'.
Otto is a great director, even if his earliest and later films tend not to impress me as much. Hard to choose a favorite between 'Anatomy of a Murder', 'Laura', 'Bonjour Tristesse', 'In Harm's Way', etc.

Quexos, feel free to jump in anytime, and note 'Million Dollar Baby' is still a sitting duck there in the Eastwood game, if you'd like to take another shot.

As it happens, I quite like Rodriguez.

For Holland--Europa, Europa, and Washington Square.

For Preminger--Laura, Advise and Consent, Bunny Lake Is Missing

J. Baker says:
I can't figure why 'Bunny Lake Is Missing' doesn't have a larger following. Maybe it's the title that throws people off. It has so many virtues that hold up to repeated viewing, among them what it possibly Larry Olivier's most natural and likable performance ('The Entertainer', I believe, still takes the cake for his 'best' performance). Noël Coward looks ripe enough for a cameo in Welles's 'Mr. Arkadin'. Perfectly seedy.

Interesting fact someone brought up on IMDb:
In the 2009 edition of Leonard Maltin Movie Guide, they give 'Bunny Lake Is Missing' a favorable 3-star review. In the 1996 version, they give a more negative reviewing saying the movie wasted unwarranted time on "homosexuals and oddball characters". That almost sounds like John Simon on a bad day.

J. Baker says:
Richard Brooks I respect more than Spielberg, even if I know his work less well. If I knew more, maybe I'd like Brooks less, but so far I haven't seen anything from him as ghastly as 'Hook', 'The Terminal', 'E. T.', or 'A. I.'.

From what I've seen, I'd rate as exceptionally good: 'The Catered Affair' and 'The Professionals' .... fairly decent / kinda disappointing: 'Elmer Gantry', 'Cat on a Hot Tin Roof', 'The Last Time I Saw Paris', 'The Brothers Karamazov', 'Blackboard Jungle', 'In Cold Blood' ... and rather bad / very disappointing: 'Lord Jim', 'Sweet Bird of Youth', 'Looking for Mr. Goodbar', 'Take the High Ground!'.
