Gordo: Of course the Python film has many tasteless bits. But one cannot treat it as realism of any sort.
Whereas only a nasty little man like Truman Capote could have invested a female who bears no resemblance to any real woman on the face of the earth in allegedly realistic fiction. And only in our culture could anyone take that neurotic, self-centered, shallow and vicious excuse for a human being seriously--less alone as some sort of feminist icon.
I would agree in re: golf or tennis. Not, God save us, Happy Gilmore.
Hoosiers? Nauseating sentimentality.
Football? Not The Blind Side. Try North Dallas Forty.
And in the spirit of the season I will leave it there without commenting on any other lumps of coal.
