+ A Maniac is a Maniac, and The Stepfather was a Maniac. This simple truth explains why he decided to go for a cruise that night. It explains why he picked up the working girl named Sally. It explains the knife he always keeps under his car seat. It explains why Sally was never seen again. It also explains his absent-mindedness in not masking his plates, his PERSONALISED plates that read IAM-DAD1. Sally's "co-worker", after thinking it through, decided to go the cops and tell them all about the gray sedan with strange plates that took Sally away......

- Tommy had had to ask his Mom if it was okay for him to go Play at Alfred's place. Of course, Tommy's Mom was happy to oblige. Alfred, of course, couldn't have been happier. He now had a reason to be in the basement, and he now wasn't Alone in the Dark. Rushing into the basement with Tommy, Alfred had forgotten to fix the broken globe; had in fact forgotten that the basement even HAD a light. He was well and truly used to the dark. Unfortunately, Tommy wasn't, so when he headed towards the Shallow Grave in the centre of the floor, he failed to see it, tripping into the shallowness, and twisting his ankle.....

I rewatched 'Maniac' last night. Talk about creepy! Certainly one of the more realistic slasher films. Some great imagery too. It's no masterpiece or anything but it does very successfully create an eerie vibe that makes you squirm in your seat. One hell of a messed up ending.

And that front cover.....jeebers!

- Alfred looked down upon the battered body of Tommy. No remorse. Cold, and deadly, this Child's Play was. A boy wails, another boy grabs the nearest blunt instrument and silences the dingy basement. A boy lies face down in a Shallow Grave, another boy smiles. A new Nightmare had truly arrived at Elm St......

+ Years at this. The instincts for it had been fine tuned. The moment Officer Brent punched the license plate digits into the computer, The Stepfather felt it. Instantly the previous night's carnage flashed before him; almost as instantly the girl in the red dress came to mind. He'd staked out the corner for at least an hour, and in all that time he'd only seen Sally, smoking an endless cigarette. The red dress had caught the corner of his eye as he and Sally drove away, but his bloodlust had dismissed it. Now he knew, sitting calmly in his living room while his stepson played in the basement with his new pally-pal, that the red dress now symbolized his potential ruination.....

I've been considering a change to the game but don't want to make a change to it without hearing the thoughts of those of you who play the game. What would you all think if I moved the points a movie needs to earn before moving on to 'slasher heaven,' to 50 instead of 100?

In reply to an earlier post on Nov 10, 2012 6:49:30 PM PST
J. Baker says:
Depends on how long you want to play.
Given how few are playing currently, I'd be happy to see the ceiling set at 50 points, and rank them thusly. The first one that gets in at 50 is #1 and so on.

In reply to an earlier post on Nov 10, 2012 6:55:36 PM PST
I was hoping to keep the game going a while, but with as many players that are play(which isn't many) I feel the game would last an eternity and people will eventually lose interest. I like your thinking of the ceiling being 50. I think the move would make the game far more interesting. I'll move the ceiling to fifty and do it that way. Thanks for the help.

+ The Stepfather had been careful. No photos. Enough difference in appearance to be able to make his true self unrecognizable to the very few personal acquaintances he allowed his wife to see. His job, while visible in that booth at the Easi-Park, was assured to be one of invisibility due to the nature of the ants that scuttled to and fro in their haste, never a care for the guy handing them their change. His name: fake. Identity, back-story, the whole shebang: fake. It's amazing what one can learn in prison. The Stepfather knew he needed to vanish, but there were still two people who would be able to identify him, no matter the disguise. And one of those people was playing in the basement Right Now. Heading towards the play den of little Al, The Stepfather snickered to himself, remembering that today was Halloween......

-Quietly fill the Shallow Grave. It had to be by hand, as the scrape of any tool would alert the devil; the devil who now had to contend with a Phenomena in the shape of a 12 year old boy named Alfred. This thought triggered a power surge through Alfred, consuming him. The world faded as his utopia caressed his damaged soul. Such out-of-body euphoria was why Alfred didn't hear the footsteps creeping down the stairs. In fact, Alfred didn't hear anything until he heard the whoosh in the air that signified the soon to be joining of his head and a spade. WHOOSH-TONK! Alfred lay face up atop the shallow grave; the child Psychopath catching one last glimpse of The Stepfather's face....those blank eyes....nothing....
