C. J. Vasta says:
The Black Cauldron came out in the mid-80s. It was Disney's first PG rated animated film although I'm not sure why. As it's not as violent as Transformers: the Movie and does not have the gratuitous profanity. It basically has the plot of Lord or the Rings except with a big pot and a pig. The hero is a Luke Skywalker type who finds a magic sword and the script relentlessly telegraphs his character arc. It's a fairly ho-hum story with a not particularly good ending. Still it's not as blatantly manipulative as Pocahontas.

Oz le Fou says:
I'd hate for anyone to think I don't enjoy a good battle over a movie...that's what the game is for; the stretches that get the competitive juices flowing is most of the fun in any game. In that respect it's a pity there isn't more chat around here, more battles of not only numbers as opinion, but words. More 'why I like this film', and 'why I don't like that one'.

It could get brutal, but I reckon if there was an unspoken level of respect and an understanding of decorum, it would be more fun.

Just thoughts.

J. Baker says:
Well, J. A. for one just called out 'Modern Romance' as a movie which "seemed to just lay there" on the alt Cult game. I accept that personal judgment, and if anyone here would like to differ or expand on that, I'd be happy to hear what they have to say.

For those who have an inexplicable aversion to Albert Brooks, or those who haven't seen 'Modern Romance', you're exempt from having to put out an explanation, needless to add.

J.A. says:
Hey JB: thanks for your help with posting my votes! Now I need to admit I made a mistake. I was wrong about Modern Romance. I had confused it for a film with a similar name.... you know.... Sally Fields, James Garner. I should not do this when my insomnia is on full tilt. Anyway, I love Albert Brooks so I can't believe I did this!! I totally "get" him and Lost In America and Mother are right on my shelf. Actually it occurred to me recently that he should re-do LIA. Anyway..............

J. Baker says:
J. A., 'Murphy's Romance'! I know it well, being a Garner fan. Not my favorite by him, not by a long stretch, and of the same era as the Albert, so it's completely understood how you'd get confused. Albeit 'Murphy's Romance' is not any sort of cult film.

Not sure how the gang would react if we tried to fix the vote from yesterday on that one. If you want to give the downvote to something else, maybe we could fix that up for you.

So, ladies and gents, there's someone of the female persuasion who takes a liking to Albert Brooks! It's not that rare, really.
Now, if you can find a lady who loves Albert, W. C. Fields, and Buster Keaton, you've done hit the jackpot in life.

And the main motivation I had to send 'Mad' to Heaven, aside from being the best on the list, was that I couldn't go by another day seeing 'The Ghost and Mrs. Muir' not alphabetized. Good lordy it was driving me up the wall!
