We have a different view on what "good" is sometimes, is all.
Yesterday I looked at the profile a poster on IMBd called Timmy. His two favorite directors? #1: Alain Resnais; #2: Raoul Ruiz. Haaa! Interesting.
I swear that I've tried with Ruiz, on the balance I just haven't developed an appreciation for his work.
His #8 is Martin Scorsese, who you respect considerably more than I do, and Timmy's #11 is Hayao Miyazaki, who vice versa!

P.S. I find it weird that George Lucas was once attached to direct Apocalypse Now. But considering how good American Graffiti was and is (I saw it on the big screen about four weeks ago or so), he probably would have done a good job.

re: "George Lucas was once attached to direct Apocalypse Now"

Oh dear. I can imagine what that might be like...

Colonel Walter Kurtz (played by puppet, voiced by Frank Oz):
"Horrors, seen I ... you've seen horrors, that ...but murderer call me not.
Have right to kill me, you do. Right to, that you do... but judge me, have you no right to...." et cetera.....

More from Kurtzoda: [intercepted radio message]:

"Watched snail crawl along straight razor of the edge, did I . . . Dream, that's mine; Nightmare, that's mine. Along the straight razor surviving edge of slithering crawling. . . .

Baker: I don't think he would have even gotten to make Star Wars had he directed Apocalypse Now.

- Don Coppola... I can't un-see all the horror, the horror, in the second half of his oeuvre, so I must punish the dogfather.
