Ladies and Gentlemen,

Welcome to the MOVIE CLUB! I'm your host, EMMA [fill in the blank]. Together let's take a journey through time and space... Here's the plan: Every week (or so) one Club member will post several movie options. The feature presentation will be voted by the other members of the club. After a week (or so), we will gather on a related thread for discussion. Easy peasy, huh?

DISCLAIMER: This is not a game; however the point is to have fun. Not for human consumption. Special thanks to the Coen commune members. All disputes to be settled with rock/paper/scissors (no dynamite, ya cheaters!). Membership fees are due no later than 15th of every month; no personal checks accepted. If you can't afford the membership fee... please contact the Pastor of Muppets.

EDIT: During my absence, Pastor of Muppets is in charge.

As OP, I'll take the first honor...

First Round Options:

Gosford Park (2001) - Robert Altman - Drama/Mystery
The Men Who Stare at Goats (2009) - Grant Heslov - Comedy/War
Side by Side (2012) - Christopher Kenneally - Documentary
True Grit (2010) - Ethan & Joel Coen - Adventure/Drama/Western
Fire with Fire (2012) - David Barrett - Action/Crime/Drama

So which horse shall we select?

In reply to an earlier post on Mar 10, 2013 9:34:29 AM PDT
Ah man, I was planning on using dynamite!

I have been in an Altman mood lately, so my vote will have to go to Gosford Park. But here's my rankings of preference:

Gosford Park
True Grit
Side by Side
Fire With Fire

The Men Who Stare At Goats isn't available for streaming, so I can't really watch it for some time.

Hi Emma! This is a great thread idea. Let me know when you get around to "The Men Who Stare at Goats". I own that one and it's been awhile since I last watched it.

I don't think I've ever seen Gosford Park yet? But The Men Who Stare at Goats is pretty good. I bought it a few years ago on a whim for like $5 and ended up really enjoying it.

The Men Who Stare At Goats is certainly an interesting film by any standards.

I saw `Gosford Park' and `The Men Who Stare at Goats' years ago. But for whatever reason don't recall enjoying either one (perhaps I just wasn't in the proper mood). Since so many people love those movies, I thought this would be a good opportunity to give them another chance.

Madame President,
Gosford Park is as good a place to start as any. Besides, I don't have to be pushed too hard to watch a Helen Mirren film. She is one funky mama!

As to membership fees, I've already spoken to Padre about it and he's agreed to pay all my fees. What a fella!

Da what now?

Oy vey. My credit card's gonna have some major fun. Dammit.

;)

Oh, and I forgot to mention...those charges to Al's Sexporium, they're for me, so, thanks dude, much appreciated.

$150.99 for a full sized Halle Berry sex doll. Well, that's what I call a bargain!

In reply to an earlier post on Mar 10, 2013 7:15:31 PM PDT
Crikey! We need to discuss some kind of compensation for this...

Al's Sexporium? I thought you said Al's Toy Barn

Well, the Toy Barn is out the back of the Sexporium. It's for *special customers*, if ya catch my drift.

Hint: Baaaaaaaaa

Which brings us full circle back to the men who stare at goats!

I hope this is some kind of prequel or sequel to Jurassic Park.

El Emmarino says:
It's the British version... somehow it didn't translate properly. But no worries Rock, Jurassic Park 4 is only 15 months away.

Awesome! What's the stance on porn?

I kid, of course. Or do I?
