Aw, Laust . . .do you mean Kelly from 'Cast Away'? I always felt really bad for her. She was in an untenable position.
She and Tom Hanks' character were not married. Didn't they get engaged on the fly before he left? They were having some relationship problems due to their mutually insane work schedules. Then he disappears for FOUR YEARS and is presumed lost at sea. They had a funeral. She still loved him but in the circumstances, it's tough to fault her for moving on with her life. She was absolutely gutted when he returned, which made it hard for me not to be sympathetic for the hard choice she had to make. I think he rather idealized their relationship while he was on the island. The Chuck that left her was not the Chuck that returned to her. The relationship that he left behind was already showing cracks and they were newly engaged.
I think the ending shows him pursuing a new life with his other inspiration--the artist who painted the wings on the box. Kelly will wind up with more regrets than he will have, probably. I sure wouldn't want to be in her shoes.
