Oh, plenty. I was a 17-year-old romantic that nobody could convince that love doesn't conquer all. He didn't hurt me before he married me. I didn't think he would hurt me. He acted like I was an angel that would make all the difference. We even prayed for a sign and got it! Needless to say, I don't ask for signs anymore. :D

That is from The Jerk. Not Mommie Dearest.

I personally know a girl who called her gramma to tell her that 'daddy' used a wire hanger on her once again. As she walked down the sidewalk towards the house on her way home from elementary school the next day her daddy met her at the door. He knelt and grabbed her shoulders, his eyes dark gray, rimmed with red, and began to explicate the genesis of his own rage - his mother. The woman who had birthed him and nursed him, dragged him and his five brothers and two sisters to Sunday School religiously, touting her knowledge of the Bible front to back, had made him beat Indian kids simply for being Indian. If he didn't beat them, she whipped him - with a whip. His brothers fared the same. They were made to fight each other. Her first child was conceived before Grampa married her, five were from grampa and the last two were from the neighbor. 'The hanger' was only one vehicle of pain; he had many and the worst did not touch the skin.

Don't ever say 'hanger'! LOL There's a joke in there somewhere!

You know, I tried to change the subject to mermaids, crossdressers, and muppets. But everyone else seems fixated on the wire hangers...

Crossdressers! I had a friend. He moved to Seattle. Idaho is not very open minded. He worked for Probation and Parole. Too many jokes in that profession, alone! I hope he's a happy guy... By the way, took his wife with him. She is dealing with all this. Really nice people.

Ten things I've said way too loud in a theatre:

"Not the horses!"
"He puts on his glasses."
"More like Eric Foreman-shadowing."
"They are gonna be best friends."
Not something I said, but jawbreakers make a really loud sound when you drop them.
"He's evil. You can tell."
"Oh! I called that! Five minutes in!"
"Bueler."
"What are you making me watch?"
"We should have pregamed this piece of crap."

Well, Al Franken is a senator so that's not that big a stretch really.

10 Things William Can Put in His Pipe and Smoke It!

1 - Citizen Kane
2 - Citizen Kane
3 - Citizen Kane
4 - Citizen Kane
5 - Citizen Kane
6 - Citizen Kane
7 - Citizen Kane
8 - Citizen Kane
9 - Citizen Kane
10 - Citizen Kane

Wow. That was weird. By the time I typed 'citizen' five times, it looked misspelled, as if I'd never seen that word before, and suddenly noticed it has 'zen' in it.

Yeah, but not as funny. I can't wait to see this campaign. I hope Izzard gets into Parliament. What a hoot!

Perfect list, Lucy!

I miss the Samurai and Conehead sketches! And the Candygram! And Gilda and Bill's nerds! My wish list: DVD set of the original SNL cast. I can't find it anywhere - the only re-runs I can find or DVDs is the more recent stuff. Is it locked away in a legal battle?

Oh man. Should have included Coneheads in the SNL list. Then I could have bumped Stripes down to the SCTV list. Cest la vie, I guess.

Crossdressers and such... We're expecting a visit from a childhood friend of my honeybear, who grew up in Norway. He is now a she and a celebrity on Norwegian television, I think a soap opera, and most people don't know she started out in a male body. It will be fun to meet her! I'm also good friends with someone who was born a hermaphrodite, with a twin brother, and since the twins were being given up for adoption, they decided the hermaphrodite should be a girl. Very interesting life story. S/he did not find this secret out until 2010, when her biological father was on his deathbed and told Trystan, who at the time was a lesbian, but had questions about her unusual genitals (scarred) and why she couldn't orgasm. Now s/he is a he, taking testosteron, and is a social/political activist for compassion toward LGBT, a minority that has an unnecessarily high suicide ratio. I'm sure we can all just get along. :)
