Hi there, all.
There was already a game on Eastwood a couple years ago that covered his whole career, which didn't distinguish between his acting and directing works, and threw all the titles together in a free-for-all.

And recently, there was a thread devoted just to his directing career (although, not yet a game on that).

With the soon-to-be-released 'Trouble with the Curve' hitting theaters probably by next Month (in which Clint stars with Amy Adams, John Goodman, et al.,) I thought it might be interesting to focus on Eastwood the Actor, and consider what are his best movie performances.
(Not counting supporting or bit roles) . . .

Vote and discuss your favorite starring roles of Eastwood's career, of the 45 movies to choose from, of the late 1950s to present. . .

2 Upvotes and 2 Downvotes allowed per person, per day.
Starting each title at 5 because of the size of his lead acting oeuvre!

+2 ...having just seen 'White Hunter, Black Heart' again, I'm blown away by Eastwood's performance.
-1 'Pink Cadillac'...needs a tow.
-1: 'Sudden'ly uninspired continuation of a series that could only go so far before getting stale.

A few trivia tidbits...

~ * ~ He was voted the 16th "Greatest Movie Star of All Time" by Entertainment Weekly. Eastwood was only two rankings behind his own all-time favorite film actor, James Cagney.

~ * ~ When Don Siegel fell ill during production of 'Dirty Harry', Eastwood stepped in as director during the attempted-suicide/jumper sequence.
That same year, 1971, Eastwood made his debut as director with 'Play Misty for Me', and Don Siegel joined him in a cameo as the bartender.

~ * ~ An accomplished jazz pianist, he performs much of the music for his movies, including the scene in the bar in 'In the Line of Fire'.

Trivia fact for Friday:

In 1951, while on leave, Clint Eastwood was on board a Douglas AD bomber that ran out of fuel and crashed into the ocean near Point Reyes. After escaping from the sinking aircraft he and the pilot swam 3 miles (5 km) to safety....

Flash-forward 59 years, Clint makes 'Hereafter', in which a lead character almost drowns at the outset, spurring on a new life course after the near death experience.

The Enforcer +2+ Simply the best Dirty Harry
The Dead Pool -2 Often feels as if Dirty Harry has been inserted into a concept meant for a a generic cop. The sequnce where Harry and his partner watch helplessly as a model car bears down on them was especially bad. They did come up with a good final showdown though.

Jonathan,

I would like to try and put things right.

I read your post about calling me a fraud on the Best Hero game, which has honestly puzzled me along with Toby calling me a liar. I think you and I have both blurted out comments that have hurt each other and unfortunately it has snowballed into a very uncomfortable situation.
I would like to say I am sorry, sincerely and genuinely. I hate this ill feeling that has somehow grown and wish that it can be sorted out. If I have caused offence then I apologise for that too.

Tobytonk gon watch 'Firefox' again today. Haven't seen it in years, so am looking forward to it.

I first saw it at the drive-in (the old Marion Twin, which is now a group of houses much in the vein of Edward Scissorhands-ville). I remember my bro and mum thought it was terrible, but dad and I enjoyed it, so rented it again as soon as it came out on video. I haven't seen it since that second viewing.

I don't know about you, but I reckon it's a pretty good pick for a lazy Sunday arvo viewing.

Jonathan says:
It's an interesting role, and one of Eastwood's first attempts at a stereotype-breaking performance.
I happen to like the first 4/5ths of 'Firefox' really well. It's like one of Hitch's medium-grade cold war thrillers, at a somewhat more leisurely pace.
I don't own it, and I probably can't rent it in time for Weekend's end, but I will sympathetically be thinking about it, and working on a strategy for seeing it once more.

Underrated movie. But then, I also like Eastwood's performance in 'The Rookie'!

And I'm confused and dazed at why Quexos is voting down Eastwood's magnificent 'Million Dollar Baby' acting.

Up next on my Clint schedule: 'Honkytonk Man' (Again!) and 'True Crime' (which might be his most underrated performance ever, if I remember right).

- Pink Cadillac... pfffft, corrosive moonshine.

Plus - Gran Torino....maybe it's just a role he was born to play, I dunno, but I thought he knocked it out the park.
Plus - Unforgiven....carried the strain of memory with skill.
Minus2 - Blood Work....a trough he ably pulled himself out of.

Plus - Play Misty For Billy (flared nostrils, flared trousers)
Minus2 - I'm turnin' 180 degrees here by down-voting 'Fire Fox'. My recollection was that he ably handled the torment of this shell-shocked veteran. Recollection and reality, sadly, are at opposite ends on this one. His handling of said torment was so-so at best.

JB, you said somewhere that you liked 4/5ths of the film. I agree...or me too. The ending just isn't the pay-off I'd remembered.
