Tentatively agree, though of Mr. Anderson's still slim resume I have only seen two, "Moonrise Kingdom" and "Grand Budapest Hotel". Definitely Wes has something special in terms of his distinctive visual style and weltangeschuuang (how's that for a fancy word?) are instantly recognizable. He has great fun interpreting film as a truly visual medium. I would not class his films as weighty in substance. He flirts with heavy themes (coming-of-age angst; conformity vs. individual expression in "Moonrise"; totalitarian oppression & the victimization of innocents in GBH . . but it's flirting only--he touches them and then dances away. That's okay; it's his style . . but maybe it's better if Wes stays away from calling himself an 'auteur'. People that call themselves that, unless they are venerable, deceased Europeans, always make me want to punch them in the face.
Statement: Wes Anderson go-to composer Alexandre Desplat is one of the best film score composers out there. Certainly the most prolific. Any given year will see 5-10 Desplat projects, including features, documentaries and television. Efforts for 2014 alone: Monuments Men, Grand Budapest Hotel, Godzilla, The Imitation Game & Unbroken.
