Quexos,

I remember reading Irvine Welsh when I was much younger. Didn't he also have a novel called 'Ecstasy'? Back in the '99-'03 years, it seems that everyone (including my friends) was obsessed with ecstasy.

Fortunately, I was smarter.

I do love Ewan McGregor though. I can't believe he would throw a fit over a movie as silly as The Beach. Don't get me wrong, I used to love DiCaprio and actually own the VHS, but I don't think the movie is some kind of revelation. Trainspotting is much better, and has stood the test of time.

*Edit* I missed that post about Sloany discussing Ecstasy, and definitely didn't know they made a movie! One more for my queue!!

Good to have you, WAS!

Guess what I am doing for "Independence Day"?? Sitting at work (alone!) pretending to be working, whilst wearing my British Flag T-shirt under my scrubs. Bahaha.

PS- I think those fools are still playing the old thread by themselves. Thank you JB, for the new and improved game!!!

Wait- Alice and Cilantron are playing it too! What is up guys?!

Alice, in response to your post on the other thread: If you haven't seen Sleepaway Camp, please do so!!! And anyone else who hasn't seen it, please do so! It is my favorite, favorite...second only to Friday and Office Space, which tie for #1. I am more than happy to discuss it, but I'm gonna warn you that I will defend it to the end! :)

EMMA: Was that you who said you were going to check out the 3OH!3 album (or was it Alice)?? If so, do you love it? I am rocking it out on my headphones as we speak.

Sloany: Don't let those fools over there bother you. We know you aren't a puppet. And you now have a drama-free thread in which to hangout! Anyone who even says the word *sock* or *puppet* in here is getting a punch in the face by yours Q-ly!

Sloan & Q ~
I also haven't seen the Ecstasy film yet, as it's yet to be released stateside, but will try to catch it during its probable short theatrical run this Fall.
I used to read alot of Welsh's output until around the time Glue came out, which I just couldn't get into despite numerous restarts. I also couldn't finish Filth, Bedroom Secrets or If You Liked School, You'll Love Work...the increasingly outrageous setups were no longer compelling without relatable characters. His writing's always been rather caustic, but now it seemed he was descending past the semi-redeeming black humor and more into mean-spiritidness, and that was increasingly harder to digest without any sympathetic human beings, which also began going extinct around this time. I did enjoy a couple of his plays (one of which concerned the purported debaucherous conduct by the cast of munchkins during the making of The Wizard of Oz), but as far as novels, I pretty much walked away after the first four or five...and yes Sloany, even the phonetic spelling lost its charm when it was rendered the primary saving grace. Here's hoping Skagboys is a return to early form!
I heard that Trainspotting was also produced as a stage play with Ewen "Spud" Bremmer in the role of Renton! Wonder if there's a video of that floating about somewhere?

Quexos: It makes me feel better that I am not the only one who sometimes cannot finish a book. I am OCD to the point of reading every little bit, and sometimes it drives me mad if I am truly not intrigued by the book. Movies too. Try as I might, I just could not make it through Buckaroo Banzai, Eraserhead, Bad Tase, etc. without my mind wandering off.

I've been reading The Brothers Karamazov for the past 6-8 months and I keep getting distracted. However, it's a damn good book, just veryyy long!! I always have like 3 or 4 going at the same time. Ha.

Baker: I would highly recommend Clue. It has definitely been one of my favorites since childhood. The cast is a brilliant ensemble with Tim Curry, Christopher Lloyd, Michael McKean, Eileen Brennan and Madeline Kahn.

Q,
That must have been Alice. They seem to be a little more electronic pop than I prefer. Right now I'm chilling with Afghan Whigs.

By the way, has anyone seen Zeph in awhile?

Q: Sleepaway -- will definitely check it out. I can almost positively say I have seen it, because I watch every horror flick that comes out, pretty much, even saw Trailer Park of Terror, that was a fun one!

DiCaprio -- I enjoy almost all his films, but the Beach was meh. Since my Trainspotting post, I have added several Irvine Welsh books to my shopping cart, so many to read now. Looking forward to the all.

3OH!3, that was Emma...but apparently I will now have to check it out since you have piqued my curiosity.

I am still playing both games, out of boredom and curiosity, see how this all plays out, but it's likely I will not get to see the outcome of either game since I only have a couple more days before starting my new job and will then go back to being on here sporadically, rather than a constant menace II society.

Q,

Now, now, in the spirit of Independence Day, C.J., Alice and Cilantron have every right to play both games.
I'm sure the element there will welcome them, for they'd be very lonely playing by themselves. They often played alone on the music games I see, but that's probably how they got to be such a malicious inbred click of paranoiacs!
Part of what made Lew Archer such a grouchy, resentful man, I bet was feeling like he had to finish the Spielberg game, and he had only Gordo to play with. Even Gordo is tired of the futile game and has tried to end it reasonably a few times now. Super pathetic. They need more fellow players or they'd go completely nuts.

If I see him around, I'll be sure to tell him about the new cult thread. I think he was the first to bail from the Scorsese one when it got ever-uglier there.

Re: 'Sleepaway Camp'

Yet another one I need to re-watch. I have a hazy memory of a fuzzy VHS recording of that I watched in the early '90s. I must have been 13. See, I don't even remember what the "curling iron" is in reference to.

Yes, I know I'm not the only one that feels honored to know someone who can tell us what it's like in the future, if only by a day.

And I'm as honored to be mistaken as the inventor of such a unique and winsome personality as T. S., not to forget Zolar and Emma, and all the rest!
