We lost a gem. The character of Sheriff Andy Taylor was an icon of Americana. "The Andy Griffith Show" featured excellent comedy, and also valuable life lessons about doing the right and about family. It was gentle and warm and comforting ... just like its star and cast.

Andy was a big talent, whether it was his humor (like that comedy album bit, "What it was, was football") or acting (he could play a villain or an innocent), or music.

There was a scene from his series where he and Peggy are singing "Down in the Valley" on the porch as Opie watches. It was just so nice:
