epic: "I give permission to vote up 2 separate films."<

Isn't that what we've been doing?
Or, you mean we can vote 1-up on four directors (2 for each category) now?

Is that what you really want to do?

>Spiritual Architect: Vertigo ++, 2001 + Arabia +"<

See, Gordan, already people are confused by the new rules. Maybe consider rolling them back to what we started with, or modifying them so people can vote +2 for one film in each category (which only makes sense)?

CP: Citizen Kane and Vertigo: For a list like this, it's definitely a tough call because we have some rather fine films here, but the way I see it, one has to give credit to the two films I've mentioned here. Citizen Kane, while I am not the world's biggest fan of the film, I will admit to it being well written, so much detail is put into every frame, every word, and every bit of character, and the overall narrative is open-ended for debate. Clearly the pinnacle of art in film. And as for Vertigo, much of what I said hold true as far as the technique, but unlike Kane, the narrative is more of a building of suspense and what is going on. This is a movie that constantly plays tricks on you, it makes you think a little bit, and frankly, it deserves every rep that it gets. It's not only one of the best films ever made, but it's my favorite hitchcock too, and is in my top 15 favorite films of all time.

DP: Lawrence of Arabia and Dr. Strangelove: I think I've already spoken to death my fondness for Lawrence, but it is definitely the greatest achievement in David Lean's entire lustrous career. The acting is top notch, the story, the technique, everything about it holds the mark of quality and definitely deserves a spot in the pantheon of one of the greatest movies ever made (certainly more deserving of its recognition than To Kill a Mockingbird). And as for Dr. Strangelove, I always have difficult time determining which I like more between Strangelove and Vertigo, but I went with Strangelove partially out of sympathy for not gaining a single vote of support, but mostly because it's also my favorite Kubrick film (sorry, 2001; maybe next time). It is witty, it is absurd, and quite frankly, it's a rather funny satire of the Cold War as a whole, and how much we took it so seriously. It actually makes us look back at how, in retrospect, we were worrying ourselves over nothing. But what really sells me on this role is the cast they selected; Peter Sellers is always a blast to watch (pun completely intended; I CAN WALK! *BOOOOM*) as is George C. Scott; the guy that played General Ripper (sorry for forgetting) is paranoid over the silliest of conspiracies (the Commies are draining our bodies of all of our bodily fluids), the redneck pilot who rides the nuke down to the ground below is cartoonishly over the top, but played very well, and let's not forget the soldier that accompanies one of the Peter Sellers and shoots the Cola machine for the cash (remember; you will have to answer to the Cola company if you don't reach the War Room). Everything about this movie is lovable. Gotta vote it up.

A ton of very good films here, and I would also like to hear your thoughts on the films you are voting up.

PS: Only one point per movie, but you can vote up 2 movies per group. Much like how I did it, only with the details to accompany them.

Re: "Jonathan of the many aliases"

That was only for a couple weeks, clearly as a joke. An important difference is that I've only ever had this one account.

Anybody can change the name on their account at the drop of a hat. And about 4 out of 5 people on here knew it was me each time because I was never trying to hide it. The aliases were all absurd and had a common theme.

Given how little attention you've paid to Gordo's alternate accounts, I'm surprised you even can recall my little spell of name-switching back then!

And here is where I pass the buck onto Spiritual Architect, whose example *I* was following!

Since epicgordan made not a single comment, about my suggestion that we allow SA's way of voting +2 for one movie on each list, I took it that gordan was surrendering to that idea, that logic.

I wasn't aware that William Smith would now be carrying water for gordan's confused and confusing rules-change, when initially he was critical of it.

If I'm mistaken, I will bow out of this bizarre game. I don't have time to fix the votes.

Baker: You know something? I have officially stopped caring at this point in time. I now got the ball rolling. But if it makes you people feel any better, you are now simply only allowed 2 up votes per group. Still no downvoting, of course. This is a poll, after all.

I will return once the new Sight & Sound Poll comes out, and add it into the game. It will not replace the current Critics Poll list, however.
