After Q & A,

Alphaville (1965) ~ 16
The Birds (1963) ~ 18
Dawn of the Dead (1978) ~ 39
Dr. Strangelove, Or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964) ~ 20
Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978) ~ 5
Planet of the Apes (1968) ~ 10

+ Alphaville (I said I was surrendering to the mob about 'The Birds', I didn't say I would vote monogamously for Zombies each time out. . .)
- Close the Apes, it's too bright in here!

Planet of the Apes (1968) ~ 9

...the Zombie Ape crashes out of the mall's glass doors, and out into the car park, only to be trampled by a Zombie Elephant (?)

And now we see why the original scene was cut.

- Zombie pretension

I've stayed out of this one because, in general, I'm sick to death of dystopias, zombies, and gloom. Now that it's down to a a few--I can with some integrity vote for the best film qua film. Obviously in a minority here--but Dawn of the Dead is a crashingly obvious one-note allegory, which is bad enough, and it's time for a 10 year moratorium on zombie movies. The genre is as dead as the zombies should be.

Harrumph, Harrumph. Pass the port.

In a shocking turn of events, the last know survivors are giving in to Romero's Zombies? Is that really how it's got to end?

Alright, enough people have expressed a weary resignation to the inevitable, so here is it:

#1: Dawn of the Dead (George Romero) !!!!!

#2: Dr. Strangelove: Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (Stanley Kubrick) (and to think, only 13 days ago it was two points away from total elimination.)

#3: Alphaville (Jean-Luc Godard) & [tied with] The Birds (Alfred Hitchcock)

Runner-up ribbons go out to 'Planet of the Apes' (1968,) 'Invasion of the Body Snatchers' (1978,) 'Fail-Safe' (1964,) and 'The War Game' (1965.)

Thank you all for playing.

I guess that's The End...?

Interesting that all the big winners were from the 1960s and 70s.

Wow. I'm gonna miss it. What reason will I have to get up in the morning?!

However, I don't ever think we could've picked just one.

Now that it's over, I have to admit...I secretly like some of the Dead remakes...and I also like the latest version of I am Legend. And Book of Eli. :-x

Please, no one throw tomatoes at me! Not even fried green killer tomatoes!

In reply to an earlier post on Apr 3, 2012 10:24:27 PM PDT
Because you said please, I'll refrain from throwing tomatoes. But ONLY because you said please.

I was reading an old movie mag yesterday, and saw a review for 'I Am Legend'. One bit stuck out as seeming to sum up exactly how I felt about the film. The reviewer wrote: "While the sun shines, it's a four star thriller with a superb turn from Smith. When the moon rises, it's a two-star horror cartoon with some of the worst FX we've seen."

I certainly didn't expect this game to end today, but I guess that's the way it is.

For the record, 'The Birds' was my number 2 film on the list. The good doctor number 3.

.....the Zombies all sat down for a celebratory dinner, feasting on the finest brains known to man. That's right, they ate Sloany's Brains!

I credit the power of positive thinking. Or quantum mechanics. Thank you all for your support - you know who you are.
