D. Duarte,

Lynch and I have a complicated relationship. I downvoted Twin Peaks because it is currently my least favorite film on the list. There are a few films I have yet to view, so that may change in the few weeks.

`Upon a pale horse' always reminds my of that old Showtime series Dead Like Me. The concept of Death/Reaper as an occupation is vastly amusing to me. I would highly recommend the series if you haven't seen it. The first few episodes are a little rough, but overall a brilliant, funny program. Plus, who doesn't love Mandi Patinkin?

You mean the thing about being a prickly pear when folks vote against movies they haven't seen?...
{*AHEM*: A Place in the World (Adolfo Aristarain)
Rebels of the Neon God (Ming-liang Tsai)}

... or was it something else?

In reply to an earlier post on Jun 15, 2012 9:44:48 PM PDT
That's it. If no one votes against all these movies only you have seen then that means you will have them all leftover at the end. As for my two votes there, I want the two movies inbetween gone. That way it will be an easy copy for me in future votes. We both know they will not win this game.

Doug Mort:
>"If no one votes against all these movies only you have seen then that means you will have them all leftover at the end"<

That's odd, this is exactly what California Couple said toward the end of the 2001 game.

Text from the OP of this game:
~~~~~~~
"... if a title has not been voted up in the following 20 days, it will be eliminated."
~~~~~~~

Maybe I should have been more explicit in my intentions: I will not include titles that no one has seen for weeks on end, and keep them around simply because I (and I alone) like them.
I'm not pulling a reverse Gordo here (...for him, it would be all about the things that only he hates, not things only one person enjoys!)

I chose these titles based on the first 200 or so movies that IMDb listed for 1992, by popularity, with one major qualification:
They must be an average rating 6.5 or higher, mostly 7.0+. Although exceptions will be made if more than one person wants it on the list (this happened with 'Wayne's World', but look how long that one lasted.)

>>"We both know they will not win this game."<<

Yeah, probably not, unless there's a swarm of arthouse-refugee losers like myself who find this thread as want to play. Not likely!

If you wait 'til the 26th of this Month, the more obscure titles like those will Magically disappear on their own, mot likely.

The main thing it comes down to -- for me, but also I know for some others who play on the games I do, and the reason I'm wont to title these "discussion" *and* "elimination" games -- is that some people here see an unusual title and they may ask 'what's that here for?' or 'what's so special about that one?', and they may take a genuine curiosity in it if a chat breaks out on the subject, followed by a rental or purchase, and possibly finding a new gem, even favorite (don't laugh, it's happened, repeatedly.)

It's a natural back and forth based on genuine interest in discovering new entertainments we could enjoy for years to come.

Others may follow their own instinct to drive out anything that looks too strange or foreign, without giving it a second thought. It's their right.

Too bad I can't let some of them "go" from the list without a whimper here or there, even when I wasn't going to vote on them myself.

Have as much fun as possible!

In reply to an earlier post on Jun 15, 2012 10:55:15 PM PDT
Well said!

In fact, in the spirit of what you are saying, I just rented Herzog's 'Lessons of Darkness'. And will try to find others too.

At the end of the day, if Calico/Colonel want to waste downvotes on movies they haven't seen, then that is their waste.

In reply to an earlier post on Jun 15, 2012 11:16:05 PM PDT
Martian/Aussie: "...that is their waste."

And for my part, when they're cut, I'm gonna mingle them with common house dirt.

That's right, it's time for my Ed Crane moment for the night:

Man.
These films.
You ever wonder about'em?
I don't know... How they keep on coming... just keeps growing.
The list's growing, it's part of us.
And we cut it off.
And we throw it away.

I'm gonna take these rejected films and throw them out in the dirt.

I'm gonna mingle them with common house dirt. . . . .
[nods]
