OT - We had a tourist campaign a couple of years ago. An advert that was shown around the world, selling our shores to prospective travelers. After shots of beaches and outbacks and kangaroos and koalas, the final shot was of Lara Bingle (google her, she's pretty hot...dumb as a bag of hammers* though) saying "Where the bloody hell are ya?" Caused a stir around the world...everyone saying it has swear words in it. We have been using that word as normal for so long that we hadn't a bloody clue what all the fuss was about.

Q: Bloody is only a curse word in the U.K. Because Amazon follows PST, it's obviously American or West Canadian-based. I'd suspect California of being Amazon's headquarters.

Re: Will Smith

I don't remember that movie. I'm gonna have to watch it now.

I used to love Fresh Prince as a kid, but when he began doing films, it was so awful. I loathe MIB.

And, even though I own the VHS, and even though Vivica Fox Rox, and even though EVERYONE else loves it...I don't think Independence Day was superb. I think I've expressed my feelings regarding aliens vs Zombies.

He really blew me away with I Am Legend. I love, love, love it.

Since the apocalypse game, I have acquired both The Last Man on Earth, and Omega Man. Vincent Price is good, but in no way does he have the raw emotion Will brings. As for Charlton Heston... ...{cricket}. And WHAT is with the chest hair?! If you want to spend half a movie running around shirtless all David Hasselhoff-like, the least you could do is be attractive! Or, have Pamela and her bouncing boobs as a sidekick. That ending was just awful squared.

Pursuit of Happyness is good too. Gets to your heart (mine at least).

And THEN...Seven Pounds! He should have won many an award for that performance (maybe he did, I don't watch those shows). The angst he carries throughout that movie makes you hurt before you even know why you are hurting. He was brilliant.

Yeah, I agree. Smith can be on song, and he's very cool in 'Independence Day'.
It might be a bit cliche, but I thought he was excellent in 'Pursuit of Happyness'. Much of that performance was brimming just below the surface, which is hard to do, and comes across as very REAL.

Ol Nutso Quaid is fun in 'Independence Day' too. But when isn't he fun?

In reply to an earlier post on Jun 7, 2012 11:38:36 PM PDT
Q,
I never saw 'Seven Pounds'. No reason...just another film that slipped by. I'll have to check that one.

I liked 'I Am Legend' in parts. I thought the day scenes were excellent, but the night scenes clashed as too cartoony. That's just me though.

I don't mind Heston as an actor...don't love him or anything.....I wonder if he was buried with a rifle in his hands?

I'm with you on MIB. Nothing special at all. Some funny moments...Tommy Lee Jones....Barry Sonnenfeld* in the directors chair....but in the end, nothing special.

I thought Smith was great in Enemy of the State although Hackman stole the show. I couldn't bring myself to watch Independence Day all the way through. There's no way someone with as little presence as Bill Pullman could be elected President, war hero or no.

There are few actors who can carry the weight of being the sole character of a film.

Will tears it up in I Am Legend. I was enthralled.

Poor Charlton, on the other hand, thought he could get by on his dashing good looks (that were only dashing to sex-deprived housewives of the 70's) and quippy one-liners (that were only quippy to himself, that narcissist).

And why do they always have to kill off the dog in these movies?! That burns me up. I was watching 'This is Not a Test' the other night, and I hated that deputy so much that I cheered when the H-bomb went off. I almost turned if off after 'the scene'.

I don't mind seeing people killed, even children. But when an animal is abused (particularly a dog), that really rattles my cage.

By the way, I finally saw a preview from The Hunger Games, and I couldn't be more disgusted at the ripping off of Shirley Jackson's lottery as a segue to the ripping off of Battle Royale.

GREAT thread topic!!!

Actors who should or should not have played the Pres. Or, actors that should next time around.

Sloan-

I never would have either. But the girl I was dating at the moment was gushing over it, so I obliged.

You have NO idea what's going on until the last 15 minutes (which starts off as annoying), but then when you get it, it blows you away! (I cried, secretly, and pretended to have an allergy).

Bruce Greenwood, on the other hand, makes a very believable President in National Treasure 2, even if we're saddled with an incredibly bad script.

Let's all roll over to the cult room real quick to throw in our down-votes for Lipstick or Performance or something.

At least I got Rambo and Ford Fairlane off the list.

C.J. Vasta: You just got snared into my own trap; you cannot vote twice in one day. And according to the rules I established since day one, the end of the day is marked at 11 PM PST (that's because the day ends 12 RST where I live). Therefore, the following changes have occured:

Showgirls is now out, thanks to Cilantron.
Wild Wild West is now tied with Freddy Got Fingered.

And speaking of, other than Catwoman, the only other film I can think of that I like left in this game is looking to be Battlefield Earth. Once those two ae eliminated, then I really dont care who gets axed except for the fact that Freddy Got Fingered lasts.
