A quick hello to all the lovers of J-Pop (Japanese Pop music and all Japanese popular music styles) out there. What are you listening to these days? I just got the new albums by Meisa Kuroki, Perfume, Aira Mitsuki & Saori@destiny and Tamurapan. All great stuff.

Feel free to join me in a discuss of J-Pop.

Hello!! I like some j-pop but dont get a chance to check it out as often as I would like, I have been listening to Kat-Tun, more like looking...they are so cute, not my type of music from what I've been hearing. Perfume is nice too, I recently "discovered" Scandal, I really like them. I also like j-metal I'm really liking Blood Stain Child and Deathgaze now thats really good stuff

I also just love Tamura and Akasaki's The True Secrets of the Pair's Feelings also (is that j-pop?)

Pizzicato 5, yes. I also like Polysics (a bit more New Wave/Rock). They are big Devo fans and made it a point to play Akron because it's their heroes' hometown (and it was a great show!).

@A.P. Walker - Qualifier: all the studio CDs and 2 compilations, but not the live CD, all the remix & other comps. I've never seen a band with so many compilations.

I have a 2-disc greatest hits collection from Anri. Thought she sings mainly in Japanese, her music sounds very Western.

I also enjoy music from the following J-pop artists.
Bonnie Pink
Hitomi
Morning Museme
Shogo Hamada
Utada (her Japanese recordings)
Tatsuro Yamashita
SuperCar
X-Japan (mainly their ballads)
Globe
Misono

There's more J-pop artists that I like, but I can't name they here. & then there's the Korean Wave-K-Pop's also becoming very popular outside of South Korea-I laughed when I heard Girl's Generation English version of "The Boys" which was co-produced by Teddy Reilly- like the song nonetheless.

Some others I like are Flow
Hajime Chitose (don't know if she is considered j-pop, but she does a song I just love, I think its called One Thousand Nights)
Love Psychedelico, for some reason, I am reminded of Sheryl Crow when I listen to them
Uverworld

Spangle Call Lilli Line, Plus-Tech Squeeze Box, Kalafina, Ali Project, Yousei Teikoku, Kokusyoku Sumire, Kanon Wakeshima, Iruma Rioka, The Brilliant Green, The Lady Spade, Tokyo Jihen, Judy And Mary, My Little Lover and School Food Punishment have all done some pretty amazing and colourful music in Japan.

I am pretty well over K-Pop. I liked some of it, BoA and Seo In-Young did some great stuff and I like the odd song from Brown Eyed Girls, Narsha and Ga-In, but generally I find K-Pop annoying now. I used to like a couple of songs from SNSD, but they're so over-hyped these days it's become ridiculous.

I don't mind some Visual-kei stuff too - Kaya, Versailles and Schwarz Stein are great. I forgot to mention Aural Vampire, Root Thumm, Bespa Kumanero, Cutei Pai, Juliehally, Sawa, Kotoko and Saori@destiny before. They all make amazing music.

I forgot to add Hajime Chitose to my list. But she has an interesting singing style.

As for K-pop, I like some of it. But I like J-pop even more. By the way, have any one heard of the new jazz LP from Saori Yuki called 1969?

In reply to an earlier post on Feb 23, 2012 10:26:34 AM PST
Steven Guy says:
Thanks for the tip on Saori Yuki. I like Japanese Jazz and it seems that Jazz is still popular with many people including young audiences in Japan.

I'm a big fan of Japanese jazz myself. My favorite pianist is Japanese-Keiko Matsui. Sad that jazz is more popular overseas than in the country from which it came from.

I don't mind the visual kei groups either, and I have to add , not j-pop but if you arent already familiar with Omodaka, he has some very interesting music where he fuses traditional Japanese singing with electronic, I love it! Plum song is pretty good too.

Indeed! I've seen videos of Keiko Matsui on Youtube. A beautiful and talented lady who always looks like she's having a great time with her band.
