Kroger Supermarket bans Meade Skelton

Posted by: Richmond Times-Dispatch ()

Date: October 28, 2012 10:50AM

Local musician Meade Skelton recently learned about the power of the internet and how quickly negative publicity can spread. Posting comments on Tumblr, an online social media site, Skelton publicly announced his observations about employee attitudes at a Kroger Supermarket in Richmond. He said, "I notice its worse with the middle aged Negroes, than the younger ones. I guess they were taught to hate white people."

Skelton later retracted the comments and posted an apology that got him into deeper water with the local African-American community by stating, "I do apologize to anyone - especially those of the colored race."

Sylvia C. Wood, NAACP First Vice President, Richmond Virginia Branch Unit, stated, "It saddens all of us at NAACP to hear racists comments from a local celebrity. We hope Meade will take the time to educate himself on the issues of racial equality and the advancements we have made in Richmond."

In response to Meade Skelton's rant about African-American employees at a local Kroger supermarket, Regional Manager, Scott O'Connell, informed employees that Meade Skelton will be banned from four local Kroger locations.

O'Connell said, "Kroger is proud to be an equal opportunity employer and strongly condemns any bias based on race, creed, sexual orientation or religion." He continued, "Our employees are proud to work for Kroger and our decision to ban a customer does not come lightly. We stand behind our employees."

O'Connell said a certified letter would be sent to Meade Skelton to inform him of their decision."""

Stratocaster says:
Isn't there a "Music For Idiots" forum thread around here somewhere where you can peddle your........"stuff"?
Why would you post on a forum that centers around mostly Rock/Pop music? You must actually enjoy the abuse! Do you really think you're going to win over any new fans? Go away.

<<<Thats not really true. meade has a lot of nice songs. You're just being a mean person. >>>>
you are biased because you are Meade.

at some point you got to realize why no one is flocking to see you play your 'nice' songs.

Nothing is sadder than someone hanging on to childhood dreams that will never come to pass.

<<<But it has. Meade's music has gotten good reviews and he has been featured on blogs and played the Blue plate special in Knoxville as well as other well known venues. He has a small but loyal fan base for outsider music . He has a lovely singin' voice. >>>
Keep telling yourself this.
Late at night, just before dawn, when you are all alone, you won't be able to deny the truth. MEADE IS A FAILURE AT MUSIC MAKING.

He is in his mid 30's and he is still spending his own money to record and market his albums....

Some nights Meade has to put ten dollar bills in his own tip jar....and five of those mysteriously disappear. I think the genesis of the lyrics were:

"Well gaaaaaaaawlaaaaaay shazaaam! Now I gotta drink five bucks worth a swayt tay"

<<<<Blah. Actually at the end of the day, Meade is only in his 30s and has done more artistically than you ever have. >>>>
I've done nothing in the field of Music.
Nonetheless, I'm still ahead considering the negative contribution Meade has made to music.

You really think that comparing Meade to an avowed 'non musician' is a winning strategy?

Oh well, the time will soon come when his nest egg is gone and he will no longer be able to fund his latest musical success...

I believe an accurate assessment. He has a garage full of unsold self-financed product, also, methinks.
